Happy New Stuff

02 03 2007

Welcome to 2007! Oh wait, it’s a bit late for that. Nevermind…

Spain Expat has seen some great things happen around the site in the last few months. We have close to 2000 Spain Expat members, with about a hundred of them posting semi-regularly on the Spain Forum.

Highlights:

ROBI has attained the status of Expatriator, while CB Web Solutions and Las Veletas round out the top three Forum posters of the last couple months. We should all thank them for their helpful information.

Even cooler is that we’ve posted a few new articles from new contributors to the site. Go empadronarse says Dreamer. Algrif explains the reality of buying into a Community of Property Owners in Spain. The Expatriator recently updated the Moving to Spain Checklist and released the “the most exhaustive list of job sites in Spain on the entire Internet”... he “shits you not”.

That’s all for now. Don’t forget that if you’re living in Spain and think you have some great info to contribute to the community, go check out the Forum and help out. If you think we’ve helped you out then please consider making a donation to Spain Expat.

Donations & the Forum

15 11 2006

I’d like to inform Spain Expat members and non-members that we’ve decided to try to reduce our dependence on advertisements by creating a donate to SpainExpat.com page. Recently we’ve received a number of advertising requests that I’ve had to deny (for a number of reasons); the time and focus I’ve spent dealing with these requests is taking away from other efforts on the site here.  Keeping the forum clean of SPAM requires more time than you can imagine and frankly I’m sick of reading through “partnership requests” from swindeling one man operations based in India (no offense to the wonderful country and people of India of course).  So please, show that you care by helping us keep a good honest information site instead of a peg board for advertisers. Make your donation to SpainExpat.com, any amount is appreciated.

On the Spain Forum side of things, we’ve seen the number of posts go up dramatically in the last month with Techman, ROBI and Jane H being the top forum responders in that time (if you haven’t noticed, we’ll post the top three members by topic posts and responses here each month).  Hot topics have included Renewing a Residencia and How to Meet People.

That’s it for now.

Fall in Spain

19 10 2006

The weather is still beautiful here; now having done away with the scorching hot temperatures we can enjoy the balmy 24C days and cool autumn evenings (which really aren’t very cool, but for Spain they’re getting chilly). If you’ve just moved to Spain then you’ve picked a great time. Who wants to deal with another cold and snowy winter?

The Spain Expat - Spain Forum has been busy lately. Special kudos goes out to mariadecastro, ROBI and babyrockenglish for being the most active Spain Expat members on the forums in the last two months, and as of today we have welcomed 1243 Spain Expat members to the site.

Also of note is the new article about furniture and furniture packs in Spain for those of you moving to Spain without bringing all your furniture from home or furnishing a rental property.

Have a great autumn and don’t let your tan fade too quickly!

September arrives

03 09 2006

I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer where ever you are (but hopefully living in Spain by now…). Jeez it was a hot July, but August shaped up to be rather balmy, perfect for enjoying the outdoors and the beach and all.

We’re back from summer vacations as you might have noticed in the Spain forums. We’ve also been fortunate enough to have a lawyer posting some helpful legal information lately. Thanks Maria! We’re also looking forward to hearing from Kevin Dillon about how to setup your own long-range wireless Internet connection to help those without Telefonica’s service. Stick around for that in the next couple weeks.

Speaking of the members, Spain Expat recently crossed the 1000th member mark. That’s great, so thanks for coming by and signing up, I hope we’ve helped you with your move to Spain or your questions about life here. Take advantage of your membership and get involved with the discussions in the forum. Particularly if you can offer some insight (and vote) on the best place to live in Madrid.

That’s all for now, see you around España!

~.
