Hi Everyone!

I am from Canada and would like to come to Spain to teach English. I read the article on this website: “Teaching English in Spain: Teaching In the Black”. I’m wondering if anyone is doing this? If so, what is your experience? What happens if you stay beyond the 90 day tourist visa? Can you make money and support yourself doing this? It seems almost impossible to get a work permit for a non-EU person, so I am considering this option.

Thanks for your feedback!

Young Canadian couple relocating to the Barcelona area in July, looking for a medium-term rental (min 6 months, likely 12 months) for E600 a month. A modest unit would do just fine, as long as we have the basics: hygienic, clean and functional. We have 2 small cats, they are spayed and very civilized. Not furnished is fine too.

Please let us know if you have something available starting July 15th, or if you know anyone that rents such a unit.

Thank you in advance,

Hello Everyone,

I am an Iranian at the age of 43, planning to obtain Panamanian or Guatemalan citizenship under the economic-donation category.
This means giving away certain amount of money to the government and obtains the permanent citizenship and passport for me and my family (spouse and two children below age of 18) immediately.
The law firm proceeding with my application informed me that on Latin American passport which we get we can easily get the Spain’s permanent residence visa (USD 15000 extra to be paid). Consequently, they claim after two years if we stay 8 months in Spain we are eligible to apply for Spain citizenship. I have read the Spain’s constitution law and noticed that citizens of Latin America can apply for citizenship after two years. However, I am not certain about it since my origin is not from Latin America.
If I get the Panamanian or Guatemalan passport, would I be eligible for the same law? Or I should be citizen of Latin American country by origin?
If I can apply is it true that 8 months out of 24 months stay in Spain will make me eligible to apply for citizenship?
What other documents are required to make sure application will be accepted?

I appreciate anyones kind comment on above issues.

Just a few thoughts and questions about the future for Spain. Spain has HUGE problems as a country with the size of its debt. Fireman are having to pay for the ITV on their fire engines, policemen have to walk to crime scenes because there is no car, etc etc all have a lighter side if it was not so serious.

Spain’s problems are being aired in the international press. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/spain/8712904/The-hilltop-Spanish-town-overshadowed-by-a-debt-mountain.html (Hold On, read the rest of the posting before going off to read this report)

But things are not all bad. Remarkably Valencia Property (Find them on Facebook) are reporting barely being able to keep up with demand for property purchases. Likewise at ExpatFinancialAdviceSpain (Also on Facebook) we are similarly busy helping with repositioning of money away from possible problematic institutions.

And I believe that we will have something to look forward to, a bright light at the end of the tunnel. A change to the structure of the EURO could be very beneficial for Spain. For arguments sake let’s say that Germany is in a different part of the new Euro system than the Spanish part (There are many reasons why Germany will leave, including not triggering defaults by expelling other countries). With the Spanish part of the Euro weaker there will be a tremendous boost for the Northern Euro holders. At present, Germans buying in Spain buy on a one to one basis because they are in the same currency. BUT, when the MED is at a lower value Germans will be able to buy at half the price. Spanish companies will be more competitive in the export market and the country will be able to reduce its debt with a bit of inflation.

I would like to propose the name of the new Spanish Euro as the MED. Analysts suggest that the MED could be at a rate of
1 GBP = 1.90 MEDS. Germans, Brits etc could get double their money by buying in Spain. And wouldn’t this be a boost for those British people here with UK incomes. Their income would also be nearly twice as much, which will feed into the Spanish economy.

Until we see the politicians take control/responsibility we need to make sure that our investments are safe and secure.

Any suggestions for alternative names for the Spanish part of the Euro if not the Med?

Hello all,
After 9 months of hemming and hawing, I am thinking of getting that one way ticket to Spain in September. I am dealing with all the anxieties I am sure everyone talks about. I am 36 years old, single, and have lost most of my family over the past few years. Since I dont have the ties holding me to my hometown of Portland, Oregon anymore, I am “free”. However, I am also a little petrified of starting over, even though I feel like it would be good for me.
I have a window of opportunity. No boyfriend, no kids, money saved, and a British passport thanks to my mum’s side. Whats holding me back? Well, lots of doubts, and yet I find myself dreaming of it constantly. I have a good job here in the states, which is part of my worry. I wont necessarily have an easy time returning. Maybe I am overthinking this? What say you, expats? How many of you have “been there/done that” to raving successes or dismal failures?
BTW, I have spent two 3month long stints in Spain already, and absolutely found it heaven. I am sure it was the rose-colored glasses of travel (and the Camino de Santiago) that influenced my perspective. But yet, I have never felt like I fit in here in the states. I always have felt that “someday” I would “leave”. Maybe because I have that British mother who was always complaining about the “riff-raff over here” my whole life (rest her soul, she was a surly Brit to the core).
But I digress…if any of you would like to share their experiences, I would be most appreciative.
Thanks and best wishes.
Laura

Ok - I’m a USA citizen and entered Europe with the 3 month no-visa-required-schengen - they just stamped my passport and I’m good for 90 days.

However, I want to stay in Spain longer. So, I need to leave the Euro zone after 90 days, but then I plan to come back as soon as possible.

Does anyone know the answers to these questions:

1. how long do I need to leave the Euro zone before I come back and get another 90 day schengen stamp?

2. can I just go to Andorra for a few days and then come right back to Spain and get my passport stamped again?

3. what’s the maximum number of times / number of days in one year one can come into the Euro zone with a passport stamp but no formal visa?

Thank you!

Hi all,
I have no idea what to do with August, and am thinking of spending 3 weeks doing an intensive Spanish course before I start looking for teaching jobs in Madrid in Sep. I’ve looked at a few schools online and they all seem around the same price 400-ish Euros for 3 weeks plus some totally crazy amount of money for a single room in an apartment. I don’t really want to take the course in Madrid, I’d like to experience some different areas of Spain…but..I can’t handle the heat of the South. Does anyone have any personal experience with language schools in the North, or in costal areas? Money is my main concern right now, being a jobless vegabond and all..
