Hey everyone! Ive gone through all most most articles and forums on this site before to make sure there wasnt something similar.
I realise that most of you are either from the US, UK or Canada but hopefully you can advise me.

Im moving from Jamaica to Madrid to be with my boyfriend (spanish) who is already there. I want to teach English while Im there. Ive read from this very helpful site that I can do the course there, but certain things arent really clear/ plain to me.

1) As a Jcan, what are the recommended steps I should take to try to guarantee success with jobs and legality before/after Im there? Ive already read the helpful articles on this site, but i think most of you speak from the vantage point of being American or British. Is it best if I first travel by tourist visa and do the TEFL course and see my options after?

2) After the course and hopefully a job offer, what next? work permit? applying to be a resident? Im so confused because my options seem limited and few. (Kindly dont mention marriage, as thats something I would like to flow from the heart, not be pressured by this situation) Does Spain offer a fiance visa?

3)What can my boyfriend start doing from now before I arrive to make the transition faster and easier. Hes willing to do anything, really but hasnt a clue as to where to start. Neither do I.

4)I see that someone asked a variation of this question before, but to no avail… What, in your opinions, is the general attitude towards other races, especially towards black people. Lemme be straight. Ive heard the stereotypes of African women being prostitutes and alot of illegal people using up resources etc etc… but have you personally seen or heard of dangerously negative attitudes towards black people?

Thanks in advance!

Natalie.

Hi everyone. I am graduating this august and plan to move to Madrid in September. I am currently looking for and applying to different tefl courses. So far, it seems like there is a very limited number of acredited courses. I have applied to Canterbury, EBC, and International house (which is already full for their september course).

I am wondering if anyone knows of other accredited courses that are offered in Madrid. Thank you so much for your help!

I also speak fluent Spanish, and have some training as a translator/interpreter. I’m looking for a few extra teaching hours/week.

My partner also have 15 years teaching experience as a vocal coach / singing teacher and is looking for some work.

My partner and I are planning a move to Barcelona next year from the UK. We have both recently graduated with good degrees from a top university, but neither of us have teaching experience or TEFL. Furthermore, as you now have to self-fund a university education in the UK money is very tight, so paying out for a TEFL course (either here or when we arrive) might be very difficult. We think we’ll be able to save enough to cover our move, the costs of finding and apartment and all the depostis / fees included, as well as having a little to tide us over until we find work. My question, then, is whether a TEFL certificate (and related experience) is absolutely neccessary to find a job teaching English (we’d both be happy with an alternative job if available, but have read teaching English is the best option). Vaughn Systems seems to be something to consider, as they don’t require TEFL, but have read bad reports on other sites.

Thanks in advance for your help.

In short:
I’m a 23 yr old male living in the states(Georgia) I’ve worked in several different fields. I’ve been working as a land Surveyor for over a year. Took 3 years of Spanish in High School. Tend to catch on to language fairly quickly. Excelled in EVERY English class I’ve ever taken. However, I dropped out of High School my Junior Year. Got my GED very shortly after. No college or similar. No criminal record(not even a speeding ticket). After I receive my online TEFL, what are my chances. Be honest, please. Any response will be greatly appreciated.
Note: I’m planning on tranferring the funds to begin the 100-hr course w/ tutor(VIA TEFLCORP.COM) tomorrow.

Peace and Much Grats to all whom reply

Hi,

Has anyone had any experiences with children who are Dyslexic learning spanish. Our son is 8years old and has been
struggling in school with Reading and writing and has now been assesssed as Dyslexic. He is not severe
but has found it very hard at school. He is now having extra help at school which has made a dramatic difference. We have been
planning to move to Spain for 2 years and are set for September this year. Initially I was going to put him into an International
school but would like him to go to a local spanish school so we intergrate better. I am concerned now that he will find it really
hard, although i have been informed that Spanish is one of the easiest languages to learn for Dyslexics due to the nature of the
alphabet. His Vocabulary is excellent on par with a 10year old. I would be interested to hear from anyone with similar experiences. We are moving to the Valencia region of spain near Xativa.

Thank you

Hi,

I am British. I am seriously thinking of doing a CELTA and moving to Spain to teach English.

Is this a good option. Is it easy to find work with a CELTA? Is it easy to live there on the wages I would earn?

Any advice you can give me would be very much appreciated.

Many Thanks

I’d be really interested to hear from anyone who is currently teaching English as a second langauge in any of the international schools in Spain.

I’d love to know how you got your foot in the international school door and where you saw the job advertised.

I have an MA in TESOL but have not heard back from any of the international schools that I have applied for. Is an MA in TESOL not a suitable qualification for teaching ESL in Spain? Would I have more chance if I had a CELTA or CELTYL qualification?

I worked really hard to achieve my MA in TESOL and feel very disappointed that this is still not enough to get even an interview at an international school.

Could anyone please advise where I am going wrong?

Btw, I am a British national with seven years TESOL experience.
