Hi All

I would like to know how many people have noticed that on the movistar accounts for May/June that was invoiced on the 1 July that everybody was charged 18% IVA. The way i understand the 18% IVA should only apply on telephone calls from the 1 July and not before. I contacted Movistar and they said it was all legal and they are doing this according to the law. I wonder how legal that is as they must have made a few million euros more.

Did you know that if you call a 902 number you paying the high rate? If you have ADSL and a Telephone line, the normal calls are free, 91, 92, 93, etc!

If you have to call one of these numbers look at this web site first…..

nomasnumeros900.com

For example, you want to find the normal telephone number for Correos.

1. Go to nomasnumeros900.com
2. type in the window the 902 telephone number, 902 197 197
3. Press “Buscar” (Search)
4. It then lists the results, a bit like google, choose one, click on it.
5. This opens another page, the page could be quite big, so use the search option in your browser, on a Mac it’s CMD and F, type in the no. again.
6. 913 8733 314 and Bobs your uncle! And it works for FREE!

I’m not going to post opinions, just what I experienced recently

 Filled in details on TelefonicaInEnglish.com
Telefonica came andf fitted and installed ADSL/Phoneline

TelefonicaInEnglish.com take 125 Euros from my account

Telefonica, one month later take full installation charges, and monthly phone/ADSL charges from my account

I phone Telefonica - They explain all TelefonicaInEnglish.com do is type the clients details into the telefonica website

So I have paid 126 Euros to this TelefonicaInEnglish.com, for them to type my information into a website.

I was under the impression the 126 Euros at least paid for something e.g. installation - But apparently not
I have also discovered a lot of the services on the TelefoniaInEnglish.com website e.g. 2 MB, 4 MB, and 10 MB don’t exist !!
So I have paid for 4MB when it is only ever possible to get 1MB (as confirmed by the engineer).
I emailed TelefonicaInEnglish.com asking for a refund, it was ignored

............. Make your own minds up !!!

I too went through hell with telefonica when we moved to the house we bought here a few months ago. The vendor promised we could have the line but used a provider so when we moved in we had a line but couldn’t make calls, she claimed she had informed telefonica. We called the English service centre and asked for the line - no probs, gave NIE and bank account, all sorted we thought. A few days later the line was cut off. When we told a neighbour we had no phone she immediately phoned telefonica - the Spanish help desk, and they said the line was disconnected. We had to pay for reconnection - unless we had internet, which we needed so we agreed. A few days later we got a new line, a few days after thet an engineer arrived to install broadband. Now the fun really started, they had sold us 6Mbps - which I had doubted at the time. The Engineer could only get 1Mbps - fine I said, that will do just leave it! But he wouldn’t. so he cut off broadband and a few days later the line was cut off. What happened form then on was a complete farce, we had a line, we didn’t have a line, various help desks said we had an order in, or we didn’t. After weeks of frustration and numerous calls finally we contracted just for a line and were told there would be no installation fee because it was their fault we couldn’t get 6Mbps.

We got a line and all seemed OK until the bill came - we had been charged for installation. I phoned the help desk and they said they would refund it, when they didn’t I phoned again and was told ‘the management’ had cancelled the refund because we hadn’t bought broadband. Now so far I had been calm, but at this point I decided there was nothing to loose, I explained to the person I was talking to that what I was about to say was not personal, that she should write it all down in an email to her manager. Then I poured out a torrent of abuse, told her telfonica were the laughing stock of Europe, that even in England everyone knew how bad they were - etc etc. Didn’t think it would work but it made me feel better.

Within a couple of days I had a refund in my bank account and a letter from telefonica admitting they made a mess of it, apologising and promising to do better - none of our friends believed it!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have learned three things.

1. The English and Spanish help desks have no means of communication, they do not have common systems, use one but not both, if you need to work in English don’t get helpful friends to phone them in Spanish - it will make matters worse.
2. They will happily sell you broadband packages at speeds they cannot attain but, unlike England, if you contract for 6Mbps and can’t give you it they won’t just connect whatever is there - you will get no service at all.

3. When all else fails shout - at least uou may feel a bit better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One has only to follow the various threads on this and other forums to realise that Telefonica is not the most loved of companies.
Indeed, I too have been known to don my Victor Meldrew hat from time to time but I have to admit that I have found their service generally to be pretty good.

On Saturday evening I lost my internet DSL connection; the phone was working satisfactorily so I didnt think to much about it, putting the breakdown down to the fact that we do occasionally suffer from breaks in service. We live out in the campo where all the main utilities are subject to occasional failures.

After two hours however we were still off line so with my English-Spanish dictionary to hand I phoned Telefonica’s DSL support line (902 357000) This is a Spanish Language only service and my Spanish is extremely limited. I spoke to a young lady who was incredibly patient with me as I stumbled through an explanation of my loss of service. She carried out a line check for me and told me there was no problem with the line and that therefore the problem must be in the house. She said she would report the problem to the Tech Support people.

24 hrs later and the same situation existed so I again contacted them and this time got a not quite so helpful operator who advised me that Tech Services had been advised and that they would be in touch.

On Monday afternoon I put on my Victor Meldrew hat and had a real good moan to my wife who is currently in the UK and obviously unable to do much to help, but who has a vested interest in our internet connection as she runs loads of websites. Ten minutes after hanging up, I had a phone call from a Telefonica engineer who needed to establish that I was indeed at home. He was about 15 minutes away from the house on his way to see me.

A cheerful chap…even when one of my dogs managed to empty her water bowl all over his feet…
He very quickly diagnosed a U/S Router and changed it and then set it up for me; something that I hadn’t been looking forward to since my computer only speaks Spanish…(Vista, purchased in Spain…). He was quite unable to help my other computer (English XP) which shares the DSL connection however and which would not acknowledge the presence of the DSL line. After he left I suddenly realised that if the IP address is changed on an XP driven computer it needs to be re-booted. This I did and it worked so we have two working computers again.

So thank you Telefonica! My only criticism would be that the job took 48hrs to accomplish, but I guess that would have been the same in the UK with BT. Once the work was completed I had no less than 5 calls from Telefonica asking if the job had been done and if so was it successful…little bit of overkill there but who’s counting!

We’re moving somewhere that it looks like 3G is the only way we can get an internet connection. We’re in the position that we can continue using someone else’s contract (they’re moving back to the UK), taking over the payments (contract runs to March 2011).

Currently they have the mini 3G contract from Movistar at 15€ per month. In upgrading to the highest package maxi 49€ per month, we assumed if this wasn’t sufficient it could be downgraded back to the original package and we’d have to work something else out.

We don’t arrive in Spain until another 10 days, and are trying to sort this all out now. Unfortunately the holders of this Movistar contract tell us they’ve been told contradicting information regarding a possible downgrade after an upgrade. The contract has until March 2011 to run, so if things don’t work out we’re apprehensive to committing to 7 x 49€ + iva payments.

Does anyone have any experience if this? My Spanish is awful and as best as I’ve tried I’ve not found any info regarding upgrade/downgrade on the Movistar website.

Thanks
