Saw this today:

The sale of 5,000 properties (10% of the housing inventory in Alicante province) during the second third of the year (May-August) is being taken as a sign that Alicante’s housing market might have turned the corner. At least that is the way that Provia – Alicante’s developer association – sees it in its latest report on the sector. According to Provia, this is the start of a slow return to normality for a sector that, in the words of Jesualdo Ros, general secretary of Provia “can’t get any worse.”

Grupo Prisa has said that it has received five offers for its Digital Plus(known as Canal+) pay satellite service. The bids have come in from Telefónica, Vivendi, Telecinco, Ono and BSkyB.

Canal+ is a Spanish pay television channel, launched in September 1990 on terrestrial television frequencies. The channel is operated by Sogecable. The main staples of Canal+ are Spanish football, bullfighting and recent movies.

In 1997 new channels using the Canal+ brand were launched in Spain. Just as on the other markets were Canal+ was present, the channels were named after colours: Canal+ Rojo (Canal+ Red) and Canal+ Azul (Canal+ Blue). A special channel broadcasting content in 16:9 aspect ratio was launched later on, but it was replaced by a time-shift channel in 2001. In 2003, the colour branding was abandoned and several movie and sports channels were launched.

In 2005, the Spanish government agreed on a change in the license terms for the channel. The permission to change the channel from a mostly encrypted channel into a 24 hour free-to-air channel was officially given by the council of ministers on July 29, 2005. From November 2005, its analogue terrestrial frequencies were given to Sogecable’s new channel named Cuatro (“Four”). Canal+ is available on the digital satellite television platform Digital+.

Grupo Ferrovial, S.A. (English: Ferrovial Group)is to sale Gatwick airport in London 2.5 billion €.

Spanish services and construction giant, owner of BAA has put Gatwick airport in London up for sale, obliged to do so by the British competition agency. The airport is valued at some 2 billion pounds, 2.5 billion €. It has a single runway, but despite that is handling 35 million passengers a year – last year’s number.
In June 2006, a Ferrovial-led consortium purchased the British company BAA Limited, for £10 billion.[5] BAA owns and operates seven British airports, including London Heathrow Airport, and operates or carries out retail management in several others.

New Mayor of Alicante

Sonia Castedo takes up her position as the first Lady Mayor of Alicante today with the idea of forming a cross-party pact with the administrations in an attempt to move large projects in the city forward.

The 37 year old Partido Popular mayor said yesterday that she would be keeping the team of councillors which had been chosen by her predecessor, Luis Díaz Alperi . he was mayor sine mid 90 with 13 years under his belt

With Spain as rotating President of the European Union, let’s shed some light on recent simplifications
of European civil cross-border litigation procedures. In this column you will find brief information on the
following matters; Small-claim cross border litigation, Inter-European summoning; Legal aid; Divorce /
separations, Alimony, Recognising and Enforcement procedures and bankruptcy.
Please note that acquiring a notion of some legalities, -for instance by means of this column-, does
not make anyone into an expert; to the contrary ! It makes one liable to commit big mistakes.
So always contact your advocate, solicitor or lawyer previous to any steps that you may wish to
undertake. As your case might very well be the exception to the rule.

               SMALL CLAIM CROSS-BORDER LITIGATION

The chances of successfully escaping small debts by emigrating to an other EU-Member State
country are getting thinner by the day. Small claim cross-border litigation - not exceeding
the value of € 2.000,00 euro - provide in an accelerate, - a foreseen period of 3 months -,
litigation procedure with all fundamental rights warranted, in the language of the addressed Court.

This procedures provides an excellent and much cheaper alternative to the so called normal
national court procedures, based on the recognition of the competence of the respective Courts
to rule in these matters.

Eu - Regulation 861/2007 (Parliament/Council), applicable in Spain since January 2009
as ‘Proceso Europeo de Escasa Cuantía’, provides for universal judicial court competence and
a uniform procedure within every EU Member State (excluding Denmark), concerning a large number
of civil and commercial matters. How ? By introducing standardized forms regarding each phase of
the procedure in every European language, accessible to every Court clerk by means of Internet.

In lee-mans’ terms this means that a London court has perfect capacity to decide a small civil matter
regarding a person domiciled in Spain or Portugal. And the defendant and possible witnesses does not
have to travel in order to be duly present in the London court, as they can be seen and heard by
means of video conference.

Material evidence and other means proof of the allegations can be produced in any manner that the
Court may seem fit, with extended discretionary powers, to consider it unnecessary to decide the case.

Contrary to normal national procedures, in which the ruling (decision) has to be seen and approved by
a Court in the Country where it is to be executed, these small claim cross-border European-court-proceedings
require no legal intervention in the other EU-member state.

This does not mean however that any one in the European Union can file any litigation procedure to which
ever judicial court within the Union, as there are restrictions and criteria to be met.

Excluded are matters related to personal status or intimacy, family and inheritance, alimony, arbitration,
rental conflicts and a few other expressly territory-bound, tax or social security matters.

The only pitt-fall might be there where the Defendant - apart from the allegations to his defence -, also
introduces a counter-claim involving a higher amount.

Hoping my experience with an International Bank branch in Marbella my warn other
not to do business with them.
On my application to open a non-resident bank account I was very impress
with the information’s I did receive in English and the quickness to
complete all the paper work.
On my return to the UK I did transfer from south Ireland 459009.25 euros
and I was charged 1836.36 commission.
After 2 months I saw a 25 euros charge for them to check my non-resident
status (never been informed and I did show them my NIE on application).
I did try to pay with the debit card 2500 euros and I was rejected. I did
contact my personal adviser and I was told there is a limit of 2000 euros x
day (never been told).
I did try to make an international transfer of 350000 euros on line and the
limit is 12000 euro x day and of course I did contact my p.a. and I was
informed that she can’t help me in any way unless I go to the branch in
person.
Here I am at the other side of the world (Panama) and they refuse to help me.
Please if you do open an account in Spain or anywhere else make sure to ask
all the questions and do not take anything for granted.
I have had bank accounts in different countries with different banks and I
never had any problems like this.
If you wish to know the name of this bank please send me a personal message.

ELECTRIC CAR GREAT, IF YOU DON’T TURN ON LIGHTS

Facing Countless Charges - Police in Oxford, England, are testing out the new Mitsubishi iMiev electric car as a patrol car. A spokesman said it can save the public money, and if it works out, they might buy more for the police fleet. The car is silent, emission-free and can go 100 miles on a charge, but it has one drawback. The police can’t turn on their flashing lights because they drain the power from the battery faster.

    * But it’s great for veeeeeeeery slow speed chases.
    * The cop who’s not driving has to lean out the window and frantically wave a glow-stick.
    * And if they turn on the siren, the engine shorts out.
    * Just hope they don’t have to chase down any murderers while it’s raining, because they can’t turn on the windshield wipers.
