This from tomorrows Round Town News (paper)

“ACCORDING TO the Chief of the Guardia Civil, those foreign residents that flout the law by driving unregistered, uninsured and untaxed foreign registered cars should be stopped. The statement came after it was announced that a crackdown on foreign registered vehicles, which started late last year in the Costa del Sol, is to be extended nationwide.

“They don’t pay the fines for parking too long in restricted parking zones, or fines for speeding,” said the Chief, “they pay no road tax and their vehicles are often uninsured and not ITV tested. This is wrong and it must be stopped.”

Hola
I have successfully submitted all my paper work for Spanish citizenship and am now being called in for my first face to face interview. I am applying as spouse of a Spanish national and I have had my residence card for about a year and half. I don’t work in Spain yet (my husband does of course) and I have actually had to travel back and forth to the US to take care of family health issues (parents) and deal with selling our house.

Has anyone gone through this process? If so, any tips for the interview? I am hoping to avoid any snags in the process.
What is involved in the interview? What kinds of questions are asked? What is the interviewer looking for in terms of responses? Is there an issue with having traveled out of the country for family business? Any/all tips would be welcomed!

Thanks!

I live in madrid and I have a cita to get my Nie the 3rd of february (in 6 days).

i lost all the information on what kind of documentation i need and where to go. I tried to call the telephone number which i used 4 months ago to get an appointment (902 565701) but is not working anymore. Apparently they took it out as there were to many enquires and could cope it anymore.

I contacted the various extranjieros offices around madrid but they all know nothing ( i cant understand why is that) and tell me to go to website which i don t understand.

I m desperate as it had been so hard to get an appointement ( which i dnt know where it is) and if I do not bring all the right documentation they will probably reschedule me in 6 months time.

So I am moving to Madrid in less than two weeks, and have been reading about the paperwork I need to complete as an EU citizen who plans to stay.

The certificado de empadronimiento, the NIE and the certificado de registro de cuidadano UE. I need to get this last paper particularly ASAP, does anyone have any recent experience of this process?

I have seen some info on the web but some aspects are confusing, and I tried phoning some oficina de extranjeros, but they either dont answer, or tell me all answers are on the internet.

Does anyone know the process? Where I go? What documents I need? Do I have to have an appointment at all officinas in Madrid, or can I just turn up in the morning for some?

Any help, would be much appreciated.

Thanks
John

Here´s the deal, I qualify for Spanish citizenship after only one year of legal residence, because my grandmother was originally Spanish. We have this confirmed by a consulate of Spain in the US. My mom could be Spanish tomorrow by option, if she wanted. As I understand this, it wouldn´t really be ‘‘recovering’’ Spanish nationality for me, but more like facilitated naturalization.

Let´s say I´m already an EU citizen and do not need a residency visa for Spain. Don´t ask me why I´d want two EU passports. Anyway, in none of the government sites, mtin, maes, mir, or mjusticia have I been able to find exactly how this process works. I wouldn´t want to work while I´m there - just live. I am self-employed and would work for clients in other countries via the Internet. So, step by step:

1) I arrive, in Bilbao, for example. Rent an apartment/house. Which office would I go to change my residency to that locale? Would they would give me some sort of residency card? Do I need to apply for an NIE before this happens? If so, where would I go to do that? What documentation is necessary to make this happen? How long would it take for this step?

2) Wait a year.

3) Apply for citizenship. What documents are necessary in this case? I have my grandmother´s birth certificate (original, apostilled), my mother´s birth certificate (original, apostilled), and my birth certificate (original, apostilled). I can translate the latter to into Spanish, if necessary - or does this need to be done by an official translator and then that translation be legalized somewhere? What other documentation is necessary?

How long would it take to process the citizenship application?

Now, it´s not very likely that I would do this anytime soon. I´m just concerned with what documents are necessary to apply so some of them can be collected and prepared now. For example, some documents in the US can be a pain to get (New York State death certificate, for example) if you´re not the child of the deceased. I would just like to have this as an option.

Hello,
My wife and I are planning to give birth to our baby in Barcelona and after 1 month or so pay a visit to our family in USA.( The baby’s mother has dual citizenship -spanish and USA - , father is USA citizen) . My questions are:
1.- do I need to get my baby a USA passport in order to enter the USA ? or is there any other easier way?
2.- Given that the baby will be born in Barcelona, do I need to go then to Madrid to get the passport? that would complicate things a bit…-planning date for airfares, etc… Is there any way you can expedite the passport procedures -like getting it done in 1 day?

I really appreciate your help! Thanks so much!
