Hi my name is Mark & I have been a self employed builder for the last 26 years, I am wanting to relocate to Spain, most likely the Costa del sol, in the hope of a better life although, I am fully aware that like most countries, Spain has been hit hard by the recession etc. Any advice on job prospects in Spain would be greatly appreciated, I can do most trades including carpentry, plumbing, renovations, new builds, plastering & kitchen fittings. I am trying to get a realistic view of whether this is a good idea or not as I would be bringing my partner Jules & our 3 year old daughter over with me. I am hoping to come within the next 1- 2 years I am currently trying to do a lot of research about living in Spain. We are all currently learning Spanish as I love the language & think its important to learn the country’s language if I intend to live among the Spanish people
Any advice would be great
Many thanks Mark & Jules

hi guys, me and my girlfriend are coming out to look at properties in and around the guardamar and torrevieja areas in march.
A few questions, has anybody had any dealings with a firm called jmt global properties? Has anybody heard about deals where the buyer takesover the mortgage from the banks on repos? if so can someone explain it to me? What are the links like from the airports to these areas, will i have to get a hire car everytime?
And what is the area like around these parts for going out eating etc.I’ve been to benidorm a fewtimes, and for my budget guardamar is about as close as i can get to benidorm and still be close to the sea.
Any input is very much appreciated

I’m moving to Spain to live with my boyfriend but I want to take my car with me.
I’m not sure if the insurance for being a right hand drive will be very expensive and it may not be worth it.
Does anyone know?

im looking to move to the costa del sol middle of 2010, ive saved some money to cover me 6months. i have been learning spanish for some weeks now, and gettin better. looking at malaga really, as i have heard some bad things about knife crime in the touristy areas. i would also like to volunter at an animal sanctuary/dog shelter, to help, and to gain some more experience with the language.

im 24 and i will be moving on my own, looking at apartments later this month, to get an idea of areas and prices. i also do thai boxing and will be looking for any local gyms that do muay thai.

so far that is all i have planned, i have only just read the post about a NIE? so i will follow that up.

can anybody else give me any ideas on what to do before i move there? average bill cost? internet connection? bank accounts? registering with a doctor/dentist?

any help or advice would be great, thanks.

I recently moved to Madrid and was thinking of buying a car, however I will be going back to Ireland at some stage next year when my work here is finished so I would like to buy a RHD car so I can bring it back with me. Does anyone know if this is possible here, can garages order RHD cars?

Thanks,

Hello All,

We have recently been presented with an opportunity that is hard to pass up. A family friend owns a house in Dolores (Alicante province) and has offered to let us stay there rent free as long as we pay the utilities. We are seriously considering it…we believe you only live once and life should be an adventure. I am 28, my wife is 26, and we have a 1 year old baby boy. I know a little Spanish and have been to Spain before. My wife does not know any Spanish. We are already working on our Spanish now to prepare. I am sure it will be a challenge but I think we will eventually be able to grasp it. We are creating our own real estate firm and hope to be up and running 6 months after we arrive. From what I have researched online we know that things are economically a little rough in Spain at the moment but we are hoping we can survive on savings until we get going.

Does anyone know anything about the town of Dolores…good or bad? I have read there is a large population of English and Norwegians there…but we are planning on immersing ourselves with the Spaniards because we really want to be able to grasp the language and understand the culture of the Spanish people.

I was also wondering about the crime rate. With a wife and small child I would only move them somewhere I found to be safe and friendly. I have read on other forums about the locals wanting to discuss politics and religion…being an American and especially an American from Texas I am a little concerned. Naturally we want to feel safe and welcome.

I have tried to research Dolores as much as I can online but I can’t find much. Wikipedia only tells you so much! If anyone can tell me anything about Dolores or the surrounding towns I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your time.

So i read that as a citizen of an EU country i dont need a resident permit, and my wife (us citizen) doesnt need one either? Is this correct? In other words we can just move down there and stay as long as we want?

Then i read i need a NIE, but the NIE would come automatically w/ applying for residency. But since i am EU citizen i dont need to apply for residency (see above) - so how do i get a NIE (me + wife)???

What other requirements are there if i am freelancer/self-employed and want to relocate to spain?

thank you!
