Hi to everyone,

first let me thank you for this great webpage and forum, that has already helped me so much.

I’m an 25 year old male that just got a scholarship to work on a Master and a PhD thesis at the University of Barcelona. I’m originally from Belgrade, Serbia but the last year I spent abroad in Holland and Sweden.
As I have to be in Barcelona on the 1st of October I’m planning to move there in September. The closer it gets the more I’m excited but also worried about finding a place to live.

I already read a lot on the website but would like to ask you all some straightforward questions.

First I get around 1200 euros a month, I had a similar scholarship in Utrecht in Holland and everything was more than fine, but would like to know how good life can i expect in Barcelona. I read a lot about the living costs in Barcelona but I still can’t make a real picture on this.
I’m looking for a room or a studio somewhere near the University (hopefully in walking distance), but I don’t really know how much money should I spend on accommodation, any suggestions what should be my limit given my income?

If anyone has any tips for a student moving to Barcelona, please post them. Every advice is more than welcomed….
Are there any international students here?

Thank you all,

Hello Everyone

I am a 20 yr old female applying for acceptance into the University of Barcelona as well as keeping my options for another universities open. I wish to study Cultural and Social Anthropology there and eventually become a resident of Spain. As of now I am patiently waiting for the Selectividad testing in my country to roll around while I study.

What I’m looking for is crucial prep advice that is why I joined this forum, I want to be as prepared mentally and physically as I can. So any advice that you would have is greatly appreciated especially about housing in Ciutat Vella, BCN lifestyles, and the Catalan language.

Ok, I am in a hurry.

In June I left US, and did not arrive here until August 17. I sent myself three boxes of books that are MINE. I used US postal flat rate international rate. Filled out customs documents. I filled in REPLACEMENT values for declared value.

One arrived.

Two are in aduana purgatory in Madrid. I got Avisos de Llegada saying I had to present myslef personally in Madrid to pay import duties or use the appointed agent they listed.

THe only contact with speedtrans is by email. I can’t get a phone # out fo them.

THey say they will not allow me to say it is declared value zero. They want me to pay like 60 Euros for each box on top of what I paid to ship them.

ANy ideas? Is there some way to convince the aduana that these are my items which I shipped to myself?

I should have paid extra luggage fee.

Hola,
So I am Steph, 27 Mum to Kijah-Star 8, Skye-Cerys 6, Indigo-Storm 3 and Phoenix 2. Married to Sean 33.
We are moving to Spain, Costa del Sol or ideally Ibiza.
Are you or do you know a family that would love to move but can’t quite fund the ideal place? Fancy co-habiting?
Either we could go halves on a plot of land and whack some caravans on there or we could go halves on a property.
Ready made support system so that we don’t succumb to loneliness.
Sean is a HGV driver (Newcastle fan, into SAS books), kids are beautiful and typical but well behaved. I am free-spirited and into the paranormal. We’re open minded.
Basically we want a quiet life, with enough dough to feed and clothe us while spending quality time together in a nicer climate.

Looking at May next yr at the very earliest, we have a house to sell that isn’t on the market yet. So we’re still in planning mode.

Any takers?

im 24 and i will be moving on my own, looking at apartments later this month, to get an idea of areas and prices. i also do thai boxing and will be looking for any local gyms that do muay thai.

so far that is all i have planned, i have only just read the post about a NIE? so i will follow that up.
