visa for musicians?

Does a musician have to get a visa to do a few gigs in Spain over the period of a couple of weeks? Many European countries like Denmark and Germany do not require musicians to have visas. What about Spain?
I haven’t been able to find anything info online about this.
Thanks for any info.

South African needing a Visa

Hi Guys,

I wonder if anyone can maybe help me.
I am planning on moving to the south of Spain with my boyfriend in October this year. How difficult is it going to be for me to get a job, and is it easy to get a company to sort out my work permit for me? How long does this usually take? and, if i was offered a job in Gibraltar, would i be able to apply for a resident visa for spain?

Working in Spain within a 90 visit?

Hello,
I’m an American that would love to experience life in a different part of the world. I’m 22 soon to be 23 male Californian. My plan is to go and “visit” Spain for 90 days because thats how long I would be allowed without a Visa but because of the length of time I am considering, I would want to work and at least be able to have some sort of income to help out with expenses. So my questions is would I be able to get a job under those circumstances? Any help with my question or situation in general would be much appreciated.

European Airlines handing PNR info to US Customs.

This may help some of the recent posters asking about travel around Europe hoping to avoid the Visa requirements etc.

Don`t know if its been discussed before, but it seems all persons who have left/travelled from/too the USA and then use European airlines are being logged and monitored by the US authorities.

http://www.statewatch.org/news/2003/oct/12pnrspain.htm

Like they say “Big Brothers a Watching”.

This may only apply to Europeans travelling to the US, but since the US are being given data by the Spanish, one could assume that the Spanish have access to US citizens entering into Spain illegally.

Does anyone know if this is true?

Hi--

I know that American citizens have six months as tourists in the UK, but the director of my au pair agency tells me that going through the UK and getting stamped for six months as a tourist gives me six months in the *entire EU.* He says that if I went through customs in the UK, I’d be legal in Spain for six months, too.

I’m thinking that, if this were really an option, I would have heard about it from more sources than just the au pair agency director, and the British Consulate website just says you get six months in the UK--nothing about six months in the whole EU. I’ve had trouble getting through on the phone to the British Consulate, and I just wondered if anyone here knows for sure whether this is true or not.

Thanks!

Maria

Re-entering Spain with two days left on tourist visa?

Hi,

I posted this on the Legal Issues forum, too.

I’m an American citizen, and I’ve posted before with questions about returning to the US for Christmas while I’m working as an au pair (and eventually overstaying my tourist visa) in Spain this year. I’ve thought about saying I’ve lost my passport and getting a new one while I’m back in the US for Christmas, but I’d rather not do that. I’m wondering if this option might work:

I could leave Spain on my 87th day to return for Christmas, and then when I flew back, I’d still have two days left to be in Spain legally. Would they let me in with no problem if I have two days left? Or might they think that’s suspicious? Would it help if I book a cheap flight to London to leave Spain on the 90th day (a flight I wouldn’t take), just so it would look like I planned to leave?

Thanks so much for any advice!

Maria

Questions about Freelancer’s Visa

I posted this in the legal issues forum, too…

I’m confused by this site’s article on the freelancer’s working visa here: http://www.spainexpat.com/spain/information/freelancers_working_visa_in_spain/

It says:

“Another great thing about this visa is that your work contract with the outside media source is only an informal contract. This makes it easier to get media outlets on board as they don’t actually have to employ you once you’re in Spain. The contract is only a suggestion - the embassy doesn’t have to know that.”

But how would it work to “get media outlets on board” with “only an informal contract,” “only a suggestion,” if you need to submit a work contract and letter from your employer indicating your salary to apply for the visa?

I just graduated from college (BA in English, writing emphasis), and I would like to do freelance writing anyway while I work as an au pair in Spain next year. So I’m really interested in figuring out how to make this visa work for me (especially since the only alternative seems to be to overstay my tourist visa), but I definitely won’t be employed full-time. Any suggestions?

Maria

Switching permenant residency from Holland to Spain (Directive 2003/109/EC)

Has does anyone have any advice or information on using Directive 2003/109/EC (permanent residency) to switch your residency from one EU country to Spain?
I have heard that the Spanish government drags their heels a lot on this.
Would it be easier for me to apply using the Freelancer journalist work visa?

Talking with someone who has done this before would be most helpful.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Darren

American with UK residency, do I need work permit?

I am an American citizen who has permanent residency in the UK. My husband, who is English, and I are currently living in Spain. While applying for jobs, several prospective employers asked whether I, as an American, would be required to get a work permit for Spain. I was under the impression that because I have legal residence in the UK and my husband is an EU citizen, that I would not need anything more than an NIE number to legally work here. Can anyone advise if this is the case? Many thanks, Minsgirl
