Signing up with Telefonica & early termination fee

Hi.

I have three questions regarding Telefonica ADSL:

—What is the minimum ADSL contract length with Telefonica in the Canaries?
—Do you need an NIE number to get ADSL with Telefonica?
—What is the early exit fee if you want to leave Telefonica before your ADSL contract ends?

Thanks for your help,

Rob.

Hi

great to see so much information on this forum. I am planning a long stay soon either in Mojacar Playa or somewhere near to that in Andulucia. Can anyone advise what possibility of very good internet connection is there and best local companies to approach for supplying internet?

Many thanks L

Quantis

Hello I’m new to this and I am not sure whether I am doing this right anyway I have a problem with Quantis and I’m not sure how to resolve it. In short I ordered a satellite internet and phone system begining of October after I was told the system would be installed within 15 days and my line with Telefonica would be taken over, 3 weeks later the system was installed the internet connection was working (slowly)the engineer told me the broadband and telephone connection would be sorted the following Monday, sure enough by probably Thursday the internet was, fair enough there are always teething probs but I have now been waiting for my phone connection 24 days and I am now paying bills from quantis and telefonica. I phoned but to be honest got fed up. with listening to music and being told someone would ring me back. I wondered if anyone has had similar troubles with Quantis and also if anyone has any advice, can I cancel my contract as they have not completed the order within a reasonable time? Should I report them to the telecommunications people and is it possible to complete a Hojas de Reclamacions without going to Quantis offices. Many Thanks.

Promises Promises from Jazztel about selling 20MB

For one week I changed from Telefonica to Jazztel because with Telefonica I had only 2 MB. so Then came Jazztel
with their fantastic offer 20MB for only € 39.00 euros. so I said Yes.

After 2 days (after the constract signed) they phoned me to tell me I have only 6MB so I said ok Its more then Telefonica
and cheaper.

Now after a test I have only 2.5 MB and a Upload of not even .05MB. So People don,t change to Jazztel because you get Sc….

stick with Telefonica.

I am looking for a Telecoms Engineer or similar that can take a look at the cabling in my Community (Fuengirola area) We are experiencing a couple of problems which are internal to the Community and which Telefonica say is the Community issue to fix. Cabling may need replacing perhaps ?
Anyone out there know of a reliable engineer, poss ex- Telefonica ?

I wasted several hours of 3 days searching for one of those magical, efficient, high tech and inexpensive insertable phone cards that used to work perfectly in all the public phones just a few years ago. Luckily my old French Telecarte still worked in the Public Phone in El Prat and had enough minutes on it to reach the place I was staying but now I am out I can’t find a new one. If anyone knows where to still get one let me know. In the phone boxes (cabinas?) it says you can get one from “Movistar” but I haven’t been able to check yet. I notice dozens of locutorios have popped up for the myriad of souls like us that just need to make a call! Anyone know any good prepaid phones that will also work in France, Germany?
In the US they had something called Net10 where you can get a good Samsung for $10 (on sale) and 750 minute top up card for a month for $25. The only drawback to that one is there were no top up cards that lasted for more than 3 months. I do not expect such a thing in Spain but anything like it would be nice.

Right to a phone / fiber optic installation?

So… we live in a lovely flat near Mercat del Born in Barcelona and have been trying for the last two months to get a phone and internet. Problem is, while there are 100 blocks for lines on the top of our building, five are broken and the rest are taken. This naturally, in a building with only 10 flats, although the techs who come out say that most of the blocks go off to neighboring buildings. The sloppiness of this blows my mind…

Anyways, every contract we’ve tried to set up then gets cancelled as there are no available blocks for Telefonica to heat up and then an Ono or Vodafone to provide service over. Anyone know any way around this? Is there a legal right to a phone line in Spain like there is in the US?

On a separate but related note, apparently the Telefonica techs arrive some day this year to install fiber optic to the building, but our idiot, out of work neighbor refused to sign off for them to do it and so we’re stuck waiting for who knows how long now; probably never. Anyone know of a line to call at Telefonica to tell them to please come out again and install it?

Obviously, as this is the second half of August, we’ve resigned ourselves to mooching the BCN public wifi until September, but any help or knowledge on this issue would be most appreciated.

Telefónica - still terrible service, only slightly improved

Hi -
Just got off the phone from Telefónica. Got through to an operator today, but on Saturday, I had to wait 75 minutes before I gave up.
I had a query about an invoice. Over the past five years there have been many errors, all profitable for Telefónica, culminating in a major pain a couple of years ago when I was left waiting for a replacement phone for two months despite calling Telefónica every day, with no one taking responsibility for an internal error. Throughout, I was of course billed consistently.
Today, after a very rude explanation of the billing system, I mentioned the 75 minute wait to the operator and the guy, after a long pause, said: “So what - what do you expect me to do about it?”
I thought Telefónica had recently improved, under pressure from losing a lot of business to Yoigo, Ono, Jazztel etc but it appears not. I am Autonomo, I now get connected automatically with an English operator (or queue..) The only difference is that someone now tells me to get lost in English, not Spanish.
I don’t know how terrible the other Telcos are but if you don’t need the coverage I would recommend looking elsewhere before going with Telefónica.
Cheers

Telephone calls from Hell!!!!

Here’s a Spanish joke that I have just translated. It made me chuckle and hope it cheers up those that are going through hard times

Rajoy (Spanish Prime minister) Berlusconi (Ex Italian prime minister) and the queen of England find themselves in Hell…..

Berlusconi tells the queen of England that there is a hot line in hell and that he is going to ask permission to the devil to use it.

He quickly goes and makes his request to the devil in order to make a call to Italy in order to find out how the fate of the country is since his departure. The devil grants his request and he makes a call to Italy that lasts 2 minutes. On hanging up the devil informs that the call costs 3 million dollars and Berlusconi pays it.

On finding out the news, the queen also requests to use the hot line and makes a call to England that lasts 5 minutes. The Devil passes her a bill of 10 million pounds.

Rajoy also feels he should make a call to Spain in order to see how he had left the state of affairs so makes a call that lasts 3 hours. When he hangs up the devils says “that will be 25 cents please Mariano”. Mariano is bewildered after hearing how much the others had to pay to make their calls, so he asks the devil why the hell was the call so damn cheap!

The devil replies:

“Now looky here Mr Rajoy, with the amount of unemployment, cut backs, the banks that have us all over a barrel, Merkel who also has more power than you, the strikes, the national health and educational problems, people loosing their minds, the lack of justice and ethics, the impunity and corruption, the state of the stock exchange and the premium risk, the housing issues, the evictions and repossessions, manifestations and riots, police brutality and a runaway royal family, I am afraid to say that Spain is a living hell! The call you have made is from one hell to another and therefore is the cost of a local call”.

Incorrect bill for telephone charges

This subject has been broached in the past. For those expatriates who have recently arrived or contracted a telephone for your home need this information. When you contract the service you must always ask for what offers are available. Over the recent years you have been able to have connection and router free. This will only be the case if you ask for this. In most cases whether the petition has been in English or Spanish you will be assured by the commercial department that they will honour your request. Wait for the first bill where almost always you will find that you are charged what the invoice will list asl which when questioned will admit are for connection charges and the router if you have contracted an adsl line. You can reclaim this amount and they will refund the extra monies paid,
