Spain - The future

Just a few thoughts and questions about the future for Spain. Spain has HUGE problems as a country with the size of its debt. Fireman are having to pay for the ITV on their fire engines, policemen have to walk to crime scenes because there is no car, etc etc all have a lighter side if it was not so serious.

Spain’s problems are being aired in the international press. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/spain/8712904/The-hilltop-Spanish-town-overshadowed-by-a-debt-mountain.html (Hold On, read the rest of the posting before going off to read this report)

But things are not all bad. Remarkably Valencia Property (Find them on Facebook) are reporting barely being able to keep up with demand for property purchases. Likewise at ExpatFinancialAdviceSpain (Also on Facebook) we are similarly busy helping with repositioning of money away from possible problematic institutions.

And I believe that we will have something to look forward to, a bright light at the end of the tunnel. A change to the structure of the EURO could be very beneficial for Spain. For arguments sake let’s say that Germany is in a different part of the new Euro system than the Spanish part (There are many reasons why Germany will leave, including not triggering defaults by expelling other countries). With the Spanish part of the Euro weaker there will be a tremendous boost for the Northern Euro holders. At present, Germans buying in Spain buy on a one to one basis because they are in the same currency. BUT, when the MED is at a lower value Germans will be able to buy at half the price. Spanish companies will be more competitive in the export market and the country will be able to reduce its debt with a bit of inflation.

I would like to propose the name of the new Spanish Euro as the MED. Analysts suggest that the MED could be at a rate of
1 GBP = 1.90 MEDS. Germans, Brits etc could get double their money by buying in Spain. And wouldn’t this be a boost for those British people here with UK incomes. Their income would also be nearly twice as much, which will feed into the Spanish economy.

Until we see the politicians take control/responsibility we need to make sure that our investments are safe and secure.

Any suggestions for alternative names for the Spanish part of the Euro if not the Med?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/spain/8712904/The-hilltop-Spanish-town-overshadowed-by-a-debt-mountain.html

Grupo Prisa has said that it has received five offers for its Digital Plus(known as Canal+) pay satellite service. The bids have come in from Telefónica, Vivendi, Telecinco, Ono and BSkyB.

Canal+ is a Spanish pay television channel, launched in September 1990 on terrestrial television frequencies. The channel is operated by Sogecable. The main staples of Canal+ are Spanish football, bullfighting and recent movies.

In 1997 new channels using the Canal+ brand were launched in Spain. Just as on the other markets were Canal+ was present, the channels were named after colours: Canal+ Rojo (Canal+ Red) and Canal+ Azul (Canal+ Blue). A special channel broadcasting content in 16:9 aspect ratio was launched later on, but it was replaced by a time-shift channel in 2001. In 2003, the colour branding was abandoned and several movie and sports channels were launched.

In 2005, the Spanish government agreed on a change in the license terms for the channel. The permission to change the channel from a mostly encrypted channel into a 24 hour free-to-air channel was officially given by the council of ministers on July 29, 2005. From November 2005, its analogue terrestrial frequencies were given to Sogecable’s new channel named Cuatro (“Four”). Canal+ is available on the digital satellite television platform Digital+.

Grupo Ferrovial, S.A. (English: Ferrovial Group)is to sale Gatwick airport in London 2.5 billion €.

Spanish services and construction giant, owner of BAA has put Gatwick airport in London up for sale, obliged to do so by the British competition agency. The airport is valued at some 2 billion pounds, 2.5 billion €. It has a single runway, but despite that is handling 35 million passengers a year – last year’s number.
In June 2006, a Ferrovial-led consortium purchased the British company BAA Limited, for £10 billion.[5] BAA owns and operates seven British airports, including London Heathrow Airport, and operates or carries out retail management in several others.

New Mayor of Alicante

Sonia Castedo takes up her position as the first Lady Mayor of Alicante today with the idea of forming a cross-party pact with the administrations in an attempt to move large projects in the city forward.

The 37 year old Partido Popular mayor said yesterday that she would be keeping the team of councillors which had been chosen by her predecessor, Luis Díaz Alperi . he was mayor sine mid 90 with 13 years under his belt

Ryanair terror of the window fixed with sticky tape that came loose in mid-air and forced crew to turn back

Passengers with Ryanair have long been accustomed to the airline cutting financial corners.

But when one party found ground crews applying sticky tape to a cockpit window, they feared the penny-pinching had gone too far.

Twenty minutes after take-off, the service from Stansted airport to Riga in Latvia was forced to turn back when the patch came loose and started making a ‘loud’ noise.

British Airways Flight 5390 was a British Airways flight between Birmingham Airport in England and Málaga, Spain. On 10 June 1990 an improperly installed panel of the windscreen failed, blowing the plane’s captain, Tim Lancaster, halfway out of the aircraft, with his body firmly pressed against the window frame. The first officer managed to perform an emergency landing in Southampton with no loss of life

smoking..

(couldn’t find anywhere else to post this in the forum…so excuse me if this is not the place…)

Films showing actors smoking cigarettes should be rate 18, experts have said. The call follows a new study showing that teenagers who watch the most movies containing smoking are up to 73% more likely to try cigarettes.Dr Andrea Waylen, of the University of Bristol, said ‘Raising the certification to 18 is likely to lower smoking rates among youth. Films ought to be rated by exposure to smoking in the same way they are currently rated by level of violence’. However, the British Film Classification said there was no public support for the idea.

Do you agree there is no public support for this notion?

I think the more they can do to banish smoking for good, the better. It’s a pretty disgusting habit which would be fine if it only affected those who choose to do it, but when someone smokes near you then you have no choice but to involuntarily join in.

Ole! . . . tourist all going to Spain again figures are on the up

Tourist figures are on the up due to unrest in Arab and North Africa uprisings wish has had knock on effect to neighboring countries
There had been a drop in the number of tourist going to Spain in recent years as recession-hit tourists took advantage of more competitive deals offered further afield. Statistics from the Spanish Ministry of Tourism show tourists visited in the first six months of 2011—up 20 pc on the previous year . City breaks make most in the frist Four months , with Madrid , Barcelona Palma de Mallorca , Valencia and Alicante seen most off the 4- 5 night City Breaks . With Package holidays enjoying a revival as travel agents slash prices in half in some cases . airline with last minute and seat sales
Spanish tourism minister Miguel Sebastian said the figures “confirm the positive evolution of Spanish tourism”.

Antonio Bernabe of the Spanish tourist board said the figures were down to “the magnificent position Spain has as a safe destination, with magnificent infrastructure and high-quality, diverse offerings”
The figure is up almost 10 per cent on the same period last year . The Canary Islands – including Tenerife, Lanzarote and and the Balearics – including Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza – are our favourite Spanish destinations . Cosat Del Sol still be on top with holiday makers .Tourism minister Miguel Sebastian said the figures ‘confirm the positive evolution of Spanish tourism’. The number of us taking sunshine breaks in Spain had been in freefall since summer 2008 because of the credit crunch and the weak pound . Numbers had plunged by up to 20 per cent as holidaymakers looked for cheaper trips outside the euro zone . Tourism chiefs had admitted the figures represented a ‘spectacular decline’ in an industry which accounts for around 10 per cent of the Spanish economy . Last month alone, 1.5million Brits travelled to Spain - 80,000 more than the same time last year, the Spanish ministry for tourism says . Last month, 171,734 Irish travelled to Spain, up 15.1pc on June 2010 A quarter of all visitors to Spain come from the UK, more than any other nation, followed by Germany, France and Italy.

Ireland new Minister for Tourism Leo Varadkar has said the VAT cuts are to help the Industry get back on it feet aand help with Tourism to Ireland , also help on bouth side off the Economy with more jobs in time , A new lower rate of VAT comes into effect today for a range of services connected to the hospitality and tourism sectors . The rate drops from 13.5% to 9% as part of the Jobs Initiative and the Government hopes it will help to stimulate the struggling sectors . The reduction will stay in place until December 2013, when it will be reviewed . The new rate applies to restaurants and catering services, hotel and holiday accommodation, entertainment venues , as well as hairdressing and printed publications , including newspapers and magazines . The Irish Hotels Federation has called on all members to pass on the reduction . The Restaurants Association of Ireland said it has instructed its members to reduce prices accordingly . on a meal off 50 euros will bring it down by 3 euros .

Do think that spain Minister for Tourism sould reduce the the IVA rate in spain aswell to help kick start hospitality and tourism sectors
? would this make more Create Job and reduce the unemployment rate here in spain ?
