Visa for Non Eu Spouse

First off I wanted to say how helpful this website is , all this stuff can be so overwhelming

So I am an American who was hired to work out in spain on a work/residence visa . I currently in spain , working now and everything is fine. However , I am trying to get all the paperwork done for my wife as well. But I keep hearing multiple things of what she actually needs to live here with me , so people say I need to do stuff in spain to register , while other say She needs to apply at the consulate ,

So I am curious if anyone has went through this particular situation , and if so can tell me what it is I need or she needs in order to live with me legally until my contract is up
