Visas for artists

Hi,

I’m an American artist currently living in Brazil. I’ve started a project to document the underside (non-performance) side of flamenco via painting, drawing, and sculpture. Based on my research I’m pretty sure what I’ll be doing is different from what’s been done before, so I’m not really worried about that.

However, as noted above, I’m not an EU citizen, nor do I have chops in that regard. I may teach English a bit on the side to make some extra cash, but I’m not going to be getting a work visa any time soon (nor will I be a student, unless someone can give me a creative way to use that - which, btw, is exactly what I’ve done in Brasil).

Anyway, what options are there for foreign artists? I plan to be in Spain for at least a year, and I would rather do this legally than not. I can’t seem to find anything.

Any help, thoughts, or direction?

Thanks
