Hi all. I was interested in getting a DVD player, but I am finding that dvd rental stores are hard to find in Madrid. I love films and while I will be going to the theater quite a bit, sometimes I would like to rent a dvd and watch it at home. At this point I don't care if it is a chain store (blockbuster type) or smaller (mom and pop) dvd rental stores. Can anyone help.

Also, I am interested in buying a DVD player that plays dvd's from all regions. Can these types of players be found for a reasonable price in Madrid? If so, where?

I would be totally amazed in there is not DVD rental shops in Madrid as there are plenty down here even in small towns on the Costa Blanca.

Regarding the players - assuming the player is compatible with Spanish electricity (ie if you are bring one from the USA I dont know if it will work here) and socket etc any DVD will play - if you want English speaking just check its case to make sure its an option. I regularly rent DVDs from a Spanish shop but select English when the DVD is in my player. No problem.

I guess the 2 main questions are 1. Are there any DVD rentals stores near me in Madrid and 2. Can I get a multi-regional DVD player

1. I don't know for certain, but if you can't find a DVD rental store in Madrid, then you're probably not looking hard enough! :-)

2. You can get some multi-region DVD players now, but they can be more expensive. Most other DVD players can be hacked by finding the approprate key stroke sequence to press on your remote control (find it on the internet)- although this may invalidate your warranty. But who cares when you can by them for 50? each now?

I don't know if the same thing happens in Madrid, but here in Barcelona the public libraries also lend out DVDs as well as books and music.

I read about this in Metropolitan magazine, so getting a membership is on my list of things to do for 2008.

URL for Barcelona is www.bcn.es/biblioteques
