We are SEO Ibiza a recently formed SEO Company based in Ibiza.

If you haven't heard of SEO before, and we tend to assume that everybody has, but xmas dinner with the a big group of people dispelled that assumption so, forgive me if I'm preaching to the converted but SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation, and simply means the art of making your website show up, ideally on the first first page, for the search terms your customers are actually using to buy yours (or your competitors) products.

Our business website www.seoibiza.com has only been online 7 weeks, although we have been doing this for 3 and a half years now, which is a long time in search technology. Although granted some "experts" have been involved in this much longer, take it from me, if they're any good, you probably can't afford, and definitely would not want to pay that much for their services.

SEO is huge business these days, I saw an estimate last week of a ?2.2 billion estmated spend in the UK alone in 2008, and I wouldnt be surprised at all, because businesses have and are realising en masse that it is the key to making the website do what it's supposed to. Its like being a plumber 30 years ago, but not being in the phone book for plumbers, and expecting to get phone calls about jobs.

Unless you have something absolutely unique, the unfortunate fact is that unless your website designer knew what he was doing SEO-wise, your site will probably not be at the top of your searches by luck alone. It may look lovely, but if no-one goes there, how can it help you?

We would like to think the fact that our brand new website is already top 3 against some good, well established sites for our primary targeted search terms is demonstration enough that we know what we're doing, ..however we understand cautiousness and that some may have been burned by imposters etc, as anywhere there is a lot of money, there are sharks.

So if you may be interested or would like more examples of ongoing successes please do visit the testimonials page on our website to try realtime Google searches with some of sites we are working with.

We are very reasonably priced in comparison to most, but also understand that some would prefer to do their own and so will also answer any questions anyone has on the subject, just because we want your spanish businesses to succeed :)

be warned though you do need to have a good idea about building websites, HTML, CSS etc to get very involved.

and thanks for a great forum, cant believe it took me so long to get here.

ps. i should also add that advertising on a site like spainexpat.com would be a great SEO start if you have a site that is currently underperforming.

its likely that targeted ads here could be as effective, if not more so than Google adwords, given the fairly unique expat demographic here. Adwords is good, but it can be expensive in some marketplaces and the conversion rates are often low unless you really know how to set it up.

Hi Kevsta,

I read your post with interest. It's very clear and I appreciate that you want to help expats with their Spanish ventures. It's been one of the pillars of the community at SpainExpat as well. In fact that's why we offer a free link for expat-owned businesses in Spain (http://www.spainexpat.com/spain/information/expat_owned_businesses_in_spain/). :)
