Double Expat - Double Jeopardy

Hi,

I am a British Expat, currently working in Libya, where I pay Libyan Tax and National Insurance (equivalent).

I am moving to Spain with my wife next year, but will continue to work out here. I will be spending less than 183 days in Spain annually but my wife will be spending more. My salary is paid in ?GB into an offshore account, from where I transfer it into my Spanish bank account. This money will then, obviously, be available for my wife to live on.

Can anyone explain what will my tax responsibility be in Spain, given the above information

Hola Ralph

If you are not a resident of Spain and from your explanation I dont think you will be you cannot be expected to pay income taxes here - I would think your current arrangements continue. Although your wife will be living here permanently if she is not going to work she has no income tax to pay. Obviously other taxes ie IVA on property etc will have to be paid.
