Hello…

Can anyone already based in Spain let me know if there is a definitive process in order to register your children for a Spanish State school? We are moving to Spain next August (in time for the new term) and are hoping to visit in February/ March 2007 in order to register our 5 and 10 year olds.

By the time we move they will have had 8 months of private tutoring so hopefully the language barrier will be partly lifted!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a customary time, I think April for enroling your child, but that shouldn’t be a problem. Go to the school with your documents, childrens passports, birth certificate, your marriage certificate to be on the safe side.

In Spain they have a libro de familiar which is a book you get as a marriage certificate, into which are added the childrens birth, so they don’t have seperate birth certificate and marriage certificates.

The scholl where you want to register will help you and tell you what documents they want to see, they would prefer a DNI number but until you apply to be residents the passport no. will be OK.

When you say “your documents” is that just the passport?

Documents being birth cerificate, marriage certificates and passports, they’ll probably want photocopies of them all, parents passports included.

We’re moving to Balsicas, a village on the Costa Calida, outside Murcia. We’re planning on visitng Feb and then March to get as much sorted before we make the move in August.

That way we should have given the kids enough time to settle before they start school.

Thats the plan anyway!!
