Hi. After many years of being a blood donor in the UK I had to give up when I moved to Spain. I believe that I can still give blood in here and I seem to remember reading about where and how to register/do it but have lost that info. Can anyone help?

We`ll if your near Malaga city, there`s a donor bus parked up outside Corte Ingles near Avenida Alameda every weeks.

Although you have to have lived in Spain for 5 yrs (I think, but not sure).

I think there is still a ban on Brits donating due to the Mad Cow incidents (again not sure).

The bus used to visit tourist beeches, that seems to have stopped, you only needed a short examination, then wham out comes the Sangre.

The CRTS runs short in malaga region every year, if your in the region just pop along to either the mobile bus or the Civil Hospital in Malaga city.

or contact

Shaggymon,

Where do you live? Here in Madrid the blood donation buses are often just parked around and you can poke your head in and donate on the spot.

Anyway, here’s the Spanish Red Cross website with all the info: http://www.donarsangre.org/.

Santi,

You don’t have to have lived in Spain for 5 years to donate. At least they didn’t ask me that question…

I had heard too that brits were either prohibited or very restricted in giving blood over here due to the risk of cjd.

I have read somewhere that Brits can give blood but not be organ doners because of the CJD risk.
Most health centres have posters up saying where and when you can donate blood, speak to your local doctor.

Thanks to everyone for the useful info. I’m sure I’ll manage to get donating again soon...assuming that I don’t get stopped for fear of CJD. I seem to remember mad cow being in our family at one time...but enough about my mother!  tongue wink . Sorry mum!  sick
