Hi guys, welcome to the forum and good luck with your move to Almeria!

I’m wondering how much you’re wanting to know about getting telephone and internet. I mean, you can just call Telefonica/Wanadoo/ONO/etc when you get here (or when you take posession of your place) or have your agent sort it out for you…

A couple things to read however:
Getting telephone service and cheap calls

Getting ADSL Internet service in Spain

If you’re out of reach of ADSL, check this article out.

Our forum for Telefonica (telephone company) customers complaints

If those don’t help, let me know what info you’re missing!

Hi , thank you for the “welcome”

We already called to Telefonica, but they say they don’t find our adress ( the address on our NIE and the escritura), so yesterday I went to the “oficina virtual del castrato” and there our cortijo has a different address , but I am afraid telefonica won’t know this one eider , we are only 100 meters from the “big” road ,but there is nobody else living on that side of the road
We can see the cables from the telephone about 50m above our house ,but Iam afraid that is does not mean a thing for telefonica???
For the wireless internet we have no “cobertura” ,only the other outskirt from the village on the other side of the valley has cobertura, and the other options I looked up so far are ,or very expensive or very slow!
I also checked other providers ,but then you have to give your phone-number to see if you have cobertura ........it makes me a little bit nervous ,so any tips would be very welcome!!!

We realy net the internet , don’t mind about the phone ,there is always “skype”

Hmm, why are you nervous about giving out your phone number to the other companies?

Did you see the article on how to put together your own long range wireless network with your neighbours?

Maybe call Telefonica again, each agent seems to know different things…

And we don’t have any neighbours ,at least no neighbours within 2 km , but I will read the article again maybe I misted something grin

Well! Coincidentally, we have a new option available! Check out the latest post at http://www.spainexpat.com/spain/forum/viewthread/150/ for info about WiMAX.

Let me know what they say if you contact them though. And tell me about their service if you get it installed and all.

Hi

We enquired about wireless access in Canjáyar - as it was successfully used in a WiMAX pilot in 2003 - only to be told by broadbandspain.com that there is no coverage and that they need 35 clients within 20km of the town to make it viable.

So we discounted Canjáyar totally for its lack of Internet access.

Please post a reply if you do have any joy!

Sorry, meant to add the link here -

The tests were completed successfully completed in 2005. The BreezeMAX technology - we understood - was supposed to be available from next month (Feb 2007).

Go and have a drink at La Piscina and you will see the mast which overlooks the area!

Hi,
I know the mast at La Piscina (we go there for a tapa and a drink every time we are in Canjayar) ,and always thought it was a mast for mobil phones (oops). our cortijo is only 2 km from La Piscina ,but if it is “supposed “ to be available in Feb 2007 ,what does that mean in spanisch time ,thats the question !!!
Anyway , we still hope to get an internet connection till the time we are living permanent in Canjayar (later this year)

This is the answer we got this week from Broadband Spain :
“Hi

We need to determine your exact location to see if we can cover your area. If you have google earth, can you use it to email your position. Alternatively, can you use http://maps.google.co.uk/ to find your road and zoom in as close as possible. You can then use the email link to email the map to us.

Regards

Hi again

If you need to send them a link use maps.google.es and search (Buscar Direcciones) for Canjáyar. Zoom in to your area and then click on “Enlazar con esta página.” This puts the exact location into the address bar and you can select it, copy (Ctrl-C) it and email it to broadbandspain.

As for BreezeMAX - watch this space. Canjáyar is alrady transmitting - we just need the Intel chip to receive it! The technology is called PRO/Wireless 5116, btw. So if you see a machine which supports this (currently it’s all Wi-Fi 54g and variants) buy it!
