We've had both Movistar and Vodafone pay-as-you-go and there's not much difference. Movistar's coverage seems a little more reliable in our mountainous area, but that might not bother you where you are.

I've got a Vodafone pay as you go with the 60 for 1 'Vitamina' package which means that I only pay for 1 minute of calls to make a call of up to 60 minutes to landlines and other Vodafone users. Had Vodafone for 5 years.
Top up minimum ?5 every 9 months.
Lose number after 12 months if you don't.
10 cents to check balance which I don't bother with because I know I still have ?5
Yes sad to say but its true, no one loves me.
