I don't think there is any substitute for getting on the ground and asking around. Are there any web sites that target your demographic - perhaps you could post a question on their message board? Looking around the streets in Spain, I don't think I have ever seen an openly/obviously gay bar. Perhaps this means that they would be frowned upon or perhaps it means that there is a market for it?
In general, my feeling is that attitudes in Spain are more relaxed than the UK.

i go to one in malaga, its called la brussels, its a good place for pre clubbing. its on one of the main squares wheres everyone drinks out on the street and square, i think it is the old distric of malaga, by the cathederal.

There is a version of the LGBT switchboard/ass in Malaga called 'Colegas' - all in Sp... but very very friendly.
They have offices all over Andalucia.
Re Malaga region - as per Jurdys post there are bars in Torremolinos, etc... But all seem to be male orientated. (I did go once to a girls bar in La Nogulera but being Spanish it started at 4am!)... There is a small bar (mixed - inc straights!) in Fuengirola by the bus station called 'Gioco'... run by 2 women (been there forever!)... but straights come in to gawp...
Re La Linea - I'm not sure. You would have to ask locally...
I know there is a gay ass in Gib - just google (but very cliquy from what I experienced!).
There are a 'few of us about'!... I would love a more user friendly (hours wise!) meeting place... But then again I choose to live in Spain and you might have to open local hours to get local trade.
PS - There is another gay bar in Fuengirola (mixed) - 'el Delphin Azul... again night time place.
Re attitudes of locals - I understand the 'modern Spaniard' does not appear to be anti-gay (even tho a Catholic country!).. and nationally even the Guardia Civil can live with same sex partners in police accommodation.
I have never encountered any probs...

PPS - San Pedro has a new gay venue called 'The Bird Cage'... for drag shows - as is 'Bunnies' in Benalmadena.
There used to be two Dutch girls who had a bar in Benidorm, who moved to Torremolinos, but I don't think it took off (not their fault - picky local trade?).

ps - It was the Anfora in La Nogulera we went one night. Again seemed cliquy. No English...
Re Aitrio - again in la Nogulera - have not been personally, but know the owners/staff are very friendly - they also organize trips out such as boat trips etc...
