The great Malaga exodus was 70 years ago this week and still remains one of the unspoken tragedies of the civil war.

For those living close to the city then the story becomes personal if you have ever travelled along the N340 towards almeria. Its not difficult to imagine the bombings from the planes and the boats. I found the story fascinating when I first read of it. If anyone else is interested you can get a synopsis here

the malaga exodus (http://www.telefonica.net/web2/teapotmonk/Site/Articles/A840DCF8-B821-41CD-9A4B-1D2AEA4B01A9.html)

But i would be interested if anyone knows of other stories that were based in the south.

Have you seen the new-ish movie, El Labyrinto y la Fauna (http://www.panslabyrinth.com/)? It's really good, plus provides some very interesting insight into civil war era goings on - highly recommended. There's a Spanish film renaissance brewing....

Yes, the movie is excellent in its mixture of history and fantasy. It certianly mkes a change from Land and Liberty and that ilk. Lets hope it achieves the recognition it deserves at the oscars.
Particularly at this juncture with the present debates about Historical Memory so prevalent in Spain.
