We have installed lots of tdt ariels and tdt boxes from gandia to torrevieja. Lots of people have bought nice new flatscreen tvs with the tdt receiver built in. guess what now they have brought out a new channel called gol which is free in august which shows loads of football including the english premiership champions league etc but after august you will have to pay for this channel approx 15e month ok maybe worth it if you like football but now to watch this you will have to buy a new tdt box which will take the card,so everyone has lost out again another new box needed even if you bought a new tv.

not necessarily.
many of the new flatscreen TVs have a PCMI slot that can accept a card reader, which can be used to read the TDT Premium (thats what the Pay TDT system is being called!) when they are made available.

similarly, you will need a new TDT set top box for HD, as some channels are currently testing HD channels also, and many HD TVs with TDT built in do not actually have a TDT HD tuner built in, just a plain Standard SD tuner.

Only two channels have so far been confirmed for TDT Premium, GOLTV and AXN.

GOLTV is on a promtions stage at the moment and will be free until the 31st August. Then you will have to pay for it. However, as it is free, they cannot show many football games (champions league for example) as other spansih broadcsaters have the free to air rights to them. Although last weekend they did have 4 UK Premiership matches - no english commentary though.

The spanish goverment did say that when tdt was launched that it would always be free, but as we know they have reversed that decision, as you say there are only two pay channels now but i dare say that will increase reminds me of sky years ago. I have noticed that there are no premiership games on teledeporte or la2 etc this sunday last year they nearly always showed at least one sunday game normally two, i dont know yet but i presume goltv will be showing a game tomoorow.
I lot of my customers have holiday homes here for thereselves and rental and the spanish tdt was a ideal system for them as there was no monthly charges. Most have older tvs so they purchased a tdt box which they will have to change now to watch the football and other future channels. Will anyone buy a tdt box now without a card slot i doubt it so whats going to happen to the thousands of boxes already produced.

My understanding was that there was always going to be PAY TV on digital terrestrial in Spain…it was just the legislation that needed sorting out, and the usual issues of Spanish football rights….
They did say that the national channels would always be free to air on TDT

so whats going to happen to the thousands of boxes already produced.

put them in another room - kids room - for example….and have the main TDT Premium box in the main room…
although i understand that non of the 400,000 Premium TDT boxes are currently on sale….they had better get their finger out as they wanted to start TDT Premium before the start of the Spanish football season!

you are right about the boxes not for sale yet someone told me eroski had the boxes there but wernt selling them yet, i have also been told by a few people that the goltv last week kept going on and off so perhaps they still have some problems with it. by the way spurs to win 2.0. Have a ncie weekend.

There was premiership last weekend on TDP and or TV2 - this weekend because they are showing Liverpool (surprise surprise! ) and because they are playing Monday night we might not get a weekend game.

The AXN mentioned above I see is owned by Sony who are currently showing a channel for free on Spanish digital TV. Some of the programs are not bad and are in English.

I think you mean SET - Sony Entertainment Television!!!

Lots of USA programmes, many form a few years ago….I have seen LOST, Housewives and a few other “recent” things on their also.

ED, 2 x Doctors programs, Flipper (new version) and recently Silent Witness has appeared. - mind you there is some real rubbish too!

And as of 1st May, SET is no longer on TDT, as this has been replaced by AXN, which is only available on TDT with subscription.
