Hi
I'm about to search for someone to work 30 hours a week. I've been advised that I can take someone on a contract basis for say 10 hours a week, pay their social security and then simply pay them 20 hours in cash. It's then up to them to declare their earnings received for the 20 hours.

Is this normal practice? Is it legal?

I've never heard that one but it doesn't sound legal. How much of a difference does it make to do SS for 10 hours per week compared to 30?
