Hi all,

We’re a couple and we’re considering moving to Madrid… we were wondering about cost of living… We’re not aiming at luxury, but would like to enjoy life (going out sometimes at weekends, driving a small car, taking some holidays)... Would 3K euros a month (after taxes) be enough for 2 ppl?

Many thanks!!

quick answer…YES!.

Longer answer…Madrid is not cheap perse but depends exactly what you want out of madrid. For 900 euros you can rent a very nice flat, just check areas, obviously some are more expensive than others.
Petrol is cheap, insurance…depends on your circumstances. Going out can be pretty cheap certainly compared to Britain (dont know where your coming from).

Put it this way even though the cost of living may not necessarily be that much lower that other EU contries in certain respects the quality of life you can have more than makes up for it. Eating out is fantastic and generally pretty good value. Daily menus in restaurants and cafes start at around 8 euros for a starter, main and desert (or cafe).

The flat you rent may well have a pool, gym and social club areas for that 900euros. Life in no doubt different over here.

Hope you find what your looking for.

Hi there - I thought I would piggy-back onto this question because I have a similar question.

I have recently been offered a teaching job at a Madrid high school for a Sept to June contract.  I would need to move my husband, and two children (10 yrs and 6 yrs) as well.

The pay seems a little low with it being 20,400 euros (after tax) for the 10 months.  Do you think this is feasible to live off of for a family of four?  My health benefits are covered, not the rest of the family’s and we will not have a car.  If not, how hard would it be for my husband to find work?  Unfortunately, I don’t know the name of the high school yet and where in Madrid it is located, but any suggestions for finding housing would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
