Broadband without phone calls? Is it an option

Hi, my name's Bernard and although I live in the UK I own 7 apartments in Torrevieja that I rent out as holiday lets. (The long term plan is to sell a couple of them and buy a villa to retire to). I don't have phones in any of them but I would like to install wireless Broadband without the possibility of making calls - so that my guests can use their laptops but not run up huge phone bills. Can anyone tell me if this is a possible option, and if so, which company I should use? Someone has already suggested Telefonica to me but I don't know whether they are recommended.

Definitely don't recommend Telefonica. What about ONO?

It seems that aeromax might be able to provide a wireless internet only service - any comments, please?

Yes ONO for sure 6Mb connection at 29.90 Euros + VAT per month. Installation charges (80?) but ONO fiber connection is only available to a lucky handful, small towns is a nono.
Another idea is USB dongle from Orange 34? month no contract 24/7 surfing: Orange website (
http://tiendamovil.orange.es/moviles-Internet-Everywhere.htm?utm_source=orange&utm_medium=autopromo&utm_term=tiendaorange&utm_content=t+link+modem+prepago&utm_campaign=movil)
Give them the dongle when they enter, and ask for the dongle back when they leave.

Someone else mentioned a dongle, but how does it work? Do you have to be in a special location to use it or does it pick up a signal anywhere? - Bernard

In Torrevieja its not a problem, just visit an Orange shop in spain and ask im sure that in Torrevieja someone speaks english in any of the shops.
It works on 3g mobile network, and this Orange plan works as: you top it up with the 35? each month it will work if not...not, the actual dongle looks like a memory pen drive but slightly bigger and has a plug and play easy installation, and works on any XP VISTA or 7 pc or notebook so anywhere you can call on your mobile you can surf the net, so in your apartments there is no problem.

In other words - a dongle uses a SIM card so if there is reception it will work Obviously better the signal better it will work and the latest generation actually work very fast compared to the early ones.

Yeah, but is the 35 a month unlimited surfing for the month or are you buying minutes that get used up fast if you use it alot?

I wouldn't bother with a dongle if you surf-surf like most. You will get like a 1meg a month transfer CAP.

get a dsl without call-line (Called STB) and depends on the size spread a few accesspoints to provide good wifi coverage.Forget about gsm usb dongles, they are good for personal and time to time connections, not if you want to use various users at the same time.
pm if you need any info

Hi Bernard,
It may be that Telefonica are your own option - but look at the forums regarding this co first!
We are on Costa del Sol & I would have recommended my local teccie = Soltec - in a heart beat.
Best (IMO) to look for a local supplier to that coast that can do this for you.
Yes, Wireless with no phone conn is possible.
You are possibly looking for a small Wi Max system. (There is a base receiver from your provider and
in each apt they will have access to this base station - Important to block out unwanted users due to cost!).
Try and look up Citrus (Citrus Red). I know someone who used to work for them. But not sure what products
they offer. Also Acox are on this coast. Not sure if they have expanded to Costa Blanca yet.
Keep asking - there must be some members in the know over there!
Good luck.
