Hi, can anyone give me some advice? I used to live in Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote for 6 years and returned to the UK nearly 2 years ago. I need to find out what my N.I.F / N.I.E was but have no way of doing so. I've tried my old employer and my account with Banco Popular was closed when I left. I was registered with the local doctor and wondered if it was worth phoning to see if they would give it to me over the phone? Although I know this is unlikely ;-( Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks xx

I can't see why your old employer wouldn't have some record of it. Other possibilities are the local Ayuntamiento, the Tax Office or your lawyer if you used one for a property purchase or rental. But I guess you would have thought of these by now. I hope you find it.

This is a first!!, you have lived and worked in Spain for 6 years and you have lost your NIE number?, I know mine by heart, I use it constantly.
It will be easier if you go back to Puerto Del Carmen and look around there, go to the "asesoria" that handles your old employers contracts and bills, or even go to the Policia Nacional and show them your passport and ask them there, if you are on the computers they will give it to you no problem, but without passport accreditation in person it will be difficult, over the phone they wont give it to you, unless it's a friend.

Another idea that just popped up, is to find a Spanish embassy in UK near to you and ask them, I'm sure they are linked up and probably can give you the details there and then: http://spain.embassyhomepage.com/

Thanks for the advice, I'll email the Embassy. I've lived back on the UK for nearly two years & honestly didn't think I'd need it. The restaurant I worked in has changed ownership & I only rented while I was living there.
