this may be a dumb question, but....

when coming from North American, will there be issues with operating my PC there? Specifically, when plugging in the power cord? I believe Europe works on a different amperage than North America?

In a word....YES!

Spain and the rest of Europe operate on 230/240 vac 50Hz. I believe N America / Canada operate on 110vac 60Hz.

If your PC is a laptop then the chances are that the power brick in the mains lead may be multi-voltage; (It is just a case of changing the lead from the wall socket to the brick) however if it is a desktop or tower it may be necessary to replace the units internal Power Supply Unit; this need not cost a bomb; for the average run of the mill PC a replacement 450W PSU will cost around 35 USD.

You might have to consider a change of monitor, printer, scanner for the same voltage related reason.

I would recommend that you invest in a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply otherwise known as a battery back up); living out in the sticks the electricity supply is liable to the occasional surge or brownout or being subject to cuts. A UPS will protect your computer from any such failing and will continue to power the computer and monitor for long enough to enable you to close it down normally. Belkin do a range of UPS's ours cost the equivalent of 100USD.

Great answer Foxbat, thank you!

Although I have both a desk top and a laptop, it would only be the laptop I would bring. So it doesn't sound like there would be much of an issue! SWEET!
