Hi all,

I know times are hard in Spain as we used to live there ourselves...that was until a friend of mine convinced us to come to Bulgaria! We originally came here for a year break, hoping things would get better in Spain but ended up buying a house here and we are now living and working here!

It's very beautiful here and is incredibly cheap to live. There are already some other English people in our village (and all over Bulgaria) who have either decided to move here or have invested in a holiday property.

We have partly renovated our current house but as we are hoping to start a family in the near future we would like to get something a bit bigger. We found a house we think is perfect for us and don't want to miss out on it so so we are looking to sell our house in order to buy the other one. We are asking 10,000 GBP as it has an indoor bathroom, new electrics and the bedrooms have been completely re-done (including restoring the beams). The house comes with 2 barns, 2 outbuildings, a bunker and 1 decre of land (with grapevines, walnut trees etc). We have done other renovations also which I can explain more to anyone interested.

If you are interested in our property or would liek to see some photos please feel free to get in touch.

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

Jen

I saw this message a bit late and should imagine the property has been sold. But would definitely appreciate very much being informed of similar properties in future!

Is it still the case in Bulgaria that the only way a Non-Bulgarian can legally own a property is through a company that has been set up in Bulgaria with a Bulgarian Director (IE usually your Bulgarian Lawyer acting as company sec) - or is that just an old wives tale that I have concocted from somewhere in the darker recesses of my imagination ?

Hi there tumbit,

You are right that you must purchase a property through a company in Bulgaria, however you can own the company it does not have to be a Bulgarian person. Also if you are buying an apartment you do not need to have a company at all. Hi to you too Rob the winters in Bulgaria can be cold but nothing compared with the UK at the moment lol. Hi Goodheart just to let you know that my children have both went to school here for 4 years and to be honest the schools do not look pretty but the education is very very superior. One thing is they are in education till 18 years old and statistically Bulgarians have a very very good education in comparison to the UK.

I can remember back in 2001 when I was 27, my PA at the time had a Bulgarian husband who wanted me to go into partnership with him in buying a 15 bedroom beachfront hotel on Suuny Beach, Bulgaria for what was then 40 Grand each.
Needless to say, and with the benefit of hindsight I wish that I had done.

I have the following for sale in Bulgaria at greatly reduced prices as trying to sell quick to fund purchase of place in Spain:

1. Renovated and furnished villa, 800sqm garden, partially landscaped with fruit trees, securely fenced. Only 15 mins from city of Stara Zagora but still lovely and quiet. Views over fields. Great rental property. I have had it rented out on long term lets for between 150 and 200E/mth for last couple of years. Reduced to offers around 23,000 E for a quick sale.

2. Old house made from red brick and stone, with 5 rooms, 2 mins from train station in lovely rural village around 30km from city. Has 2 rooms downstairs and 2 rooms upstairs. Does need renovation and no indoor bathroom but water and electric connected. Offers around 4000 Euros for a quick sale.

3. Lovely character property at base of Balkans. Has internal plumbing and very basic bathroom but needs completely updating. Lounge, kitchen, hall and bathroom downstairs and 2 rooms upstairs. Attached small barn and additional building which was once a mini-market. 1500sqm plot. Good access and large village. Offers around 4000 Euros.

4. 3 bed villa with 8000sqm garden and 700sqm additional plot opposite. Full planning for large extension. Lovely views. Good village with amenities, 20 minutes to city centre. Offers around 15,000 Euros.

Or would take 40,000 Euros for all 4, if bought in one go.

Also open to exchange for something in Spain. Ideally something not too far from southern French border - would love to own olive groves, cave house, somewhere we could put a mobile, small village house.....
