Hi,

We are starting a new business in the Alicante area. I am struggling to find a way to get a payment system working (ie - accepting payment via the internet, phone and by card directly). Both of us have pretty poor Spanish, and we are still in the process of setting up a bank account here as well. Basically, we see many people have tools which help them accept money, and my first instinct is that this should be easy to setup, but because we are in Spain - it all seems too hard! What would be nice is if anyone knows of any Spanish banks which are out there but can help us with business banking and in English too! This would be great, and I imagine the market share for this would be large!.

Anyway, any advice in this area would be greaat..

regards
Vince

Hi there - try SOLBANK (part of the Sabadell group) whilst they not be the cheapest regarding charges they were setup originally to help foreigners and so they are very used to the English and their problems! You say Alicante area so I cannot say a specific branch (I personally know the Torrevieja one - they are very helpful) to find your closest branch hit their site and look at their branch list www.solbank.es
Good luck

I do business with people all over the world, from Spain and the UK, using only PayPal as a method of collecting payment.
I guess a lot depends on the nature of your business, but it works very well for me.

Hi Vince,

My daughter, Emma, works for Banesto Bank in Torrevieja, and is a small business adviser with predominant responsibility to all English speaking people who are looking to start a business here in Spain. Get a copy of Opportunity Spain, if you can, or check the site out at www.opportunity-spain.com, click on services and training, click the Banesto banner, and you can send Emma an email direct to the bank. They do all sorts of deals including a portable swipe machine, not sure of their rates, or how they compare to the others, but its worth while checking it out, I have seen her work and heard the great feedback she gets, but then I suppose I am biased being Dad!! She has ample managerial, business and commerce experience, and will do her level best for you to smooth the way through the spanish beaurocratic maze. Banesto do not have any commercial involvement with Opportunity-Spain, but Emma happens to know the web administrator very well, and it is an ideal place to advertise Banesto's talent in this field, since the site gets a lot of hits from ex pats setting up here. Hope this helps, mention Dad when replying, I get nothing for it (moan) but at least she knows I am spreading the word, good luck .Paul :-)
