Hola everyone, I am new member & need advice. Myself & my husband have been renting in Spain since end of 2008 so not residents but we do have an NIE no. We rent for 9 months of the year & go back to the UK for the summer. My question is:
can we buy a Spanish car if we do not work (early retirees) & are not residents? Hope you can help :)

You can definitely buy a Spanish car.
If you have trouble registering it in Spain, just register and insure it in UK and use those number plates.

Given that you spend the majority of your time in Spain that makes you residents by default. Yes you can own a Spanish car as you have NIE which you need because of the car's tax liability.

I fail to understand the previous posters advice concerning UK plates - that would just complicate the situation keep the car all Spanish its much easier and cheaper.
