Jazztel - Line Caps

Just wanted to post a word of warning about Jazztel.

We've been with them for just under 3 years and for the first 18 months all was great.
Then about 18 months ago the line speed dropped and I'd assumed it was just because of the home network and using a lot of wireless.
About 2 weeks ago we started having a lot of drops of the ADSL line and we contacted their tech support and I asked for them to look into the line speed also.

Jazztel, like many other ISPs, contract out the ADSL to telefonica - and it turns out that Jazztel have only contracted a 1MB service from telefonica - even though we've been paying for a 20MB service all this time. Due to the nature of the contact - they can't change it until it comes up again for renewal - which basically leaves us scuppered.

If you speak to the Jazztel technical support - you get varying answers depending if the person on the other end of the line can be bothered to do more than a line check. If you're lucky they'll dig and see the cap, if you're not you'll get the standard "distance from the exchange" response about the speed - if you're unlucky then they panic and hang up on you.

I've just finished a call with telefonica and they can guarantee an ADSL line of 6MB - possibly 10 MB once they check the line - so there are no technical issues with having a faster speed than is currently provided by Jazztel - therefore the "distance from the exchange" statement we received from Jazztel isn't valid.
