harlequin…

Isnt it a fact that companies such as yours are still totally dependent upon Telefonicas infrastructure; that being the case you cannot hope to provide anything better than Telefonica provide in the same geographical area. Other than an English speaking help line; judging by cazzys remarks maybe this too is something of a pipe dream…

As there was only one question I’ll answer it… No. smile

I’ve discussed this at length with BT and also have a number of years experience at a technical level, much higher than most of the techies we have to deal with so hopefully I can help provide an explanation…

True, the last mile is still Telefónica’s, in some cases the last few yards, in others a lot more. However, BT did work in partnership with Unelco some years back and put the infrastructure in place that we now use (most of the cover plates acually have the BT logo).

Also, Depending where, which island etc. in many cases your connection will only travel over a Telefónica infrastructure for a small part of that journey.

i hope that helps…

I thought Telefonica owned BT. In any case the service we had from BT whilst we had it was very poor!!

I’m sorry that’s the case. More recently it’s quite the reverse.

Also… I should have pointed you to our website though, we actually manage all sales and 1st line support. We only pass a client to BT (who do have English speaking support) in cases where we simply can’t do anything more.

I’m living In Gran Canaria in a small town and we have only 1mb internet. Telefonica charge around €60 for this so we moved to vodafone. Unfortunately due to the fact telefonica own these saturated lines and won’t spend any money on infrastructure we still have the same connection. In fact, I think they lump all vodafone customers onto the same pipe which is even worse so now I get constant drop offs and at peak times around 20kb/s download.

If BT had their own infrastructure here I’d jump at the chance - you’d never hear me say that in the UK - but they don’t.

By the way, hilarious that there’s a complete subforum for telefonica here. smile

There are three things I really hate about Spain; Mopeds, badly dubbed tv and movies, and Telefonica.

1mb in 2011 = internet poverty.
