Hi, I'm thinking of buying a 2008 Suzuki and I'd like to extend the warranty for peace of mind as I will be financing the car over three years. Does anyone know where in Spain I can get this? I assume Suzuki themselves may do an extended warranty as they do in the UK but unfortunately my Spanish is not up to discussing on the phone!
Thanks for any advice!

If you are buying the car from a dealer then they will be able to arrange an extended warranty. If you are buying privately then first do a search for UK based firms that provide warranty insurance and they may even offer to give you cover even if you live abroad. After all, a car is a car no matter where it's kept.

Hi, I did speak to the dealer but he can only offer a max of one year and we want three.

The fact that it is a used vehicle will restrict you somewhat. There are companies that will insure for mechanical faults and it may be that you will just have to renew annually.

ok, yes maybe. Do you happen to know any of these companies? I've had no luck Googling 'em!
Cheers

I googled 'private car warranty' and had numerous links to choose from - it took me 3 seconds!

Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately, although we do provide 100 days of European cover with our polices, we cannot provide exclusive cover.
Neither do we have any affiliates who do.
Kind regards

Tried them too! Also spoke to the Suzuki dealer here in Spain today who sold the car originally but he says I can't extend the warranty. Maybe Spanish drivers trash their cars too much!

Hi Sp... Will try to remember to look out my paper work that came with my second hand Clio.
(Bought from a mechanic/trader).
He gave me a 6 month 'warantee' included in the sale. Although it was limited (after I read the small print!) to a maximum claim of Eu500.
I am sure there are co's out there who will sell some kind of thing you are looking for?

We are also looking to buy a newer daily use car for work, so I will be interested to see how things go.
Do the finance co not offer any policies?

Hi, we would be getting a loan from our UK bank as the dealer in question doesn't do finance so can't get warranty that way. Didn't think it would be so difficult! Would help if I spoke and understood better Spanish mind! :-/

I advise against extended warranties. A very good friend works for such a firm and his main job is to discover reasons to deny warranty claims. I know others who have made warranty claims and they are seldom successful. I believe they are a waste of money.

Hi JussTruss...
We were successful in using our warantee.. for the full maximum of Eu500.
The mechanic handled all the paperwork for us. (They did not question it nor send out their 'Perito').
Our mechanic presented his Presupuesto for Eu 750 for the full job, and maybe as we were paying the difference the co
allowed it?

Guess we were lucky? (Even tho we still had to pay the difference on a car that has supposedly been checked over by the mechanic selling it to us in the first place!!! - NB We will never use him again!)
