I have a spanish friend here in the Dominican Republic.  Last week I told him that I was going
to a nearby town and he said, “me invitas?”  I said
I’m going to just spend the whole day sitting in store using the internet.  He said again,
“me invitas?”  I said well if you want to go, you can go with me.  When
we were on the bus, he said that since I invited him I should pay for
all of his food and drink and his pasaje.  I refused.  Is this behavior acceptable in spain
or should I watch out for this guy?

No, Spacer, this sort of behaviour is most certainly NOT acceptable in Spain, or indeed anywhere else.  This person is a “caradura y va de gorra”, not to mention he is a free-loader.

You don’t need this kind of “friend”.

All the best
