Hello!

After 5 long years in Spain, I’m finally making the journey back home to the US. I have a few questions regarding shipping things home!

I’m not sure what the best services are and if anyone has used one that you would recommend to get all belongings home safely.

I’ve been looking at Correos and I’m concerned with border issues. Does anyone know of any problems that could occur from shipping clothes, shoes, or books? They are all used items but I’m not sure how to declare and give my items value for insurance purposes but avoid any strange taxes!

Also wondering how long boxes normally takes to arrive from Spain?

Any tips or advice would be very helpful.

Thanks!

Presumably you are talking about Import duty when your stuff arrives back in the USA.
Correos could be an expensive means of delivery… postal cost worldwide are getting more expensive by the day.
I’d be inclined to talk with the guys at the US Embassy in Madrid or Barcelona about taxation and import duties.

Depending on the weight and volume of the boxes most Spanish Courier services like MRW and SEUR offer international shipping. I used MRW to tranship a couple of large boxes from Spain to the UK and found them to be very good and prompt. You will need to provide the shipping agent with an itemised list of the contents of the boxes.
