OK, so I’m the guy who was full of Telefonica Rage back in the year 2000, which evolved into a fine SpainExpat forum. Since that time, Telefonica changed from a monopoly to a quasi-monopoly. I have to admit, Telefonica has cleaned up their act—they’ve worked hard on improving customer service. They’ve also changed their name to Movistar—when the entire population hates you, pretend you’re someone else.

So now I have to say Telefonica’s service is better than Ono’s. Ono has picked up an old trick of Telefonica’s bag: make the baja impossible. Ono for companies now hides their telephone number and wants you to use their online client area. But you can’t do a baja online (contrary to what the first Ono person told me). So you call 1403 and they say you can only do a baja by calling 800-400-036. When you call that number, you get a busy signal . . . all day long, and the next day . . . I called 1403 back—they said “keep trying that number, maybe you’ll have better luck in the afternoon.”

It’s funny, because this is exactly what Telefonica used to do back in 2000: retain clients by force. Good luck with that, Ono. (Oh, no!)

I am looking for a Telecoms Engineer or similar that can take a look at the cabling in my Community (Fuengirola area) We are experiencing a couple of problems which are internal to the Community and which Telefonica say is the Community issue to fix. Cabling may need replacing perhaps ?
Anyone out there know of a reliable engineer, poss ex- Telefonica ?

Hello I’m new to this and I am not sure whether I am doing this right anyway I have a problem with Quantis and I’m not sure how to resolve it. In short I ordered a satellite internet and phone system begining of October after I was told the system would be installed within 15 days and my line with Telefonica would be taken over, 3 weeks later the system was installed the internet connection was working (slowly)the engineer told me the broadband and telephone connection would be sorted the following Monday, sure enough by probably Thursday the internet was, fair enough there are always teething probs but I have now been waiting for my phone connection 24 days and I am now paying bills from quantis and telefonica. I phoned but to be honest got fed up. with listening to music and being told someone would ring me back. I wondered if anyone has had similar troubles with Quantis and also if anyone has any advice, can I cancel my contract as they have not completed the order within a reasonable time? Should I report them to the telecommunications people and is it possible to complete a Hojas de Reclamacions without going to Quantis offices. Many Thanks.

I wasted several hours of 3 days searching for one of those magical, efficient, high tech and inexpensive insertable phone cards that used to work perfectly in all the public phones just a few years ago. Luckily my old French Telecarte still worked in the Public Phone in El Prat and had enough minutes on it to reach the place I was staying but now I am out I can’t find a new one. If anyone knows where to still get one let me know. In the phone boxes (cabinas?) it says you can get one from “Movistar” but I haven’t been able to check yet. I notice dozens of locutorios have popped up for the myriad of souls like us that just need to make a call! Anyone know any good prepaid phones that will also work in France, Germany?
In the US they had something called Net10 where you can get a good Samsung for $10 (on sale) and 750 minute top up card for a month for $25. The only drawback to that one is there were no top up cards that lasted for more than 3 months. I do not expect such a thing in Spain but anything like it would be nice.

So… we live in a lovely flat near Mercat del Born in Barcelona and have been trying for the last two months to get a phone and internet. Problem is, while there are 100 blocks for lines on the top of our building, five are broken and the rest are taken. This naturally, in a building with only 10 flats, although the techs who come out say that most of the blocks go off to neighboring buildings. The sloppiness of this blows my mind…

Anyways, every contract we’ve tried to set up then gets cancelled as there are no available blocks for Telefonica to heat up and then an Ono or Vodafone to provide service over. Anyone know any way around this? Is there a legal right to a phone line in Spain like there is in the US?

On a separate but related note, apparently the Telefonica techs arrive some day this year to install fiber optic to the building, but our idiot, out of work neighbor refused to sign off for them to do it and so we’re stuck waiting for who knows how long now; probably never. Anyone know of a line to call at Telefonica to tell them to please come out again and install it?

Obviously, as this is the second half of August, we’ve resigned ourselves to mooching the BCN public wifi until September, but any help or knowledge on this issue would be most appreciated.
