Hello
We are thinking of moving to Spain from France. Just wondering how much it cost to get basic health insurance. And also my partner is thinking of setting up a business as a carpenter/builder could somebody shed the light on how to go about it

State Health cover can be linked to employment, ( one thing I have noticed is a distinct shortage of Joiners and Carpenters in our part of Spain) Should you go for self employed status and become properly registered you will need to pay into the State system, would cost about 250? per month and that will get you access to State medical care and pension etc,
If you go private thre are various options, but as always cost is based on Level of cover and age, secondly a lot of preconditions may not be covered.
I am with Sanitas ES, which is affiliated with BUPA in the UK so I transferred my BUPA standing for previous ailments, cost for my self and wife is about 1250? PA, ( A lot lot cheaper than the UK), I am 63, my wife is younger.
There are quite a few other companies offering fairly good rates also, but I found Sanitas to be by far the least lost and with a good level of geographical cover in Urban areas, bit thin on the ground in inland towns etc
