Hi all,  I?m living here in Spain and am now a Spanish Resident.  I hold a UK driving licence but it still has my address from the UK, ie my parents? address, where I lived before moving to Spain.  Do I need to do anything about this?  I believe that the DVLA can only do a change of address if it?s within the UK, correct me if I?m wrong.  So am I OK to just keep my old address on there?  Also, if I go back to the UK for a visit and hire a car there would there be a problem if I hired the car as a Spanish resident yet my driver?s licence has a UK address?  Any advice would be much appreciated as I?m pretty clueless when it comes to things like this!!  Thanks a lot

If your licence is valid in the UK and is the Pink Plastic with Photocard ( and you have the accompanying rap sheet), you in theory need to do nothing, however some Guardia officers will insist that you register the licence, although under EU directive as I understand it this is not necessary.(I think on one of the threads here there is a letter that explains the current EU legislation and its validity in Spanish, which is worth copying off and using if challenged

In the UK as long as you have the two part licence, the hire company will have little or no interest in what address it has,

I have been driving on my UK in spain now for Six years, use regularly in the UK for hire cars, ( on my old UK address) have been stopped and fined for speeding here in Spain and there has been no issue other than I had to pay the fine!!,

You dont need to if you have the Pink Photocard licence,  that is now valid in all EU countries,

All you need to know about the directive and indeed just about any subject on expats living in Spain, can be found here ( you will have to register to get access)
