Hi,

I am planning on applying for a visa soon.  I travel alot and have two kids, so making a 8 hour trip to my “local” consulate just to hand in some paperwork is a bit of a hassle.  The Chicago Consulate website says that you can designate a legal representative to turn in your paperwork.

Has anyone done this?  Do you need to hire a lawyer or will anyone do?

If anyone could help?

Thanks in advance.

Normally, legal representative can be anyone. You just need to write a leter of trust with name, surname and passport number of the person you can trust to handle your documents. It can be done only in notary and notary confirms your letter and signature. With this letter your legal representative can do any paper work on your name. I did same for getting my visa to Spain. I didnt have time at all, so I wrote trust letter on the name of my friend and he submitted my application to Spanish Consulate and when visa was ready, he picked it up.
