Hi,  I live in Lanzarote and am retired.  The UK pay for medical treatment here but if I visit the UK I need a E111 card.  Does anyone know where I apply?  Is it Correos (Post Office) or a Government office?

Thank you.

Hola

Are you British living in Lanzarote?

The E1 11 applies to British citizens and as far as I am aware you get this from the Post Office but in the UK, it is now a plastic card, I got myself one last year, the papers were filled in at the Post Office and sent off, the card was returned to me back in the post.

Hope that helps, if you need more information, let me know

You need to apply for the Spanish EHIC card (Tarjeta sanitaria Europea) which you can get from your local social security office

Thanks for your replies.

Fruity, yes I did that when I lived in the UK and visited Lanzarote, now I need to do it the other way round, so sonictombstone has confirmed, as I thought, I have to go to the social security office here.  I hoped I could get away with a visit to the Post Office, but it seems I am going to have to brave another nightmare of driving in Arrecife (the capital in Lanzarote) to sort it out.

There may be a way of doing it online. My Spanish isn’t good enough to find out but you can certainly apply for it as a UK resident on the NHS website. I don’t see why the Spanish wouldn’t have an equivalent. Maybe one of our Spanish natives would know

Good thinking, hope someone comes up with the link.  Will also put a post on the Gazette forum in Lanzarote.
