HI All,

I am planning the trip back to the UK for end of June, and looking for advice/recommendations on where to stay in Bilbao before the crossing - does anyone have any ideas, we are 2 adults 2 kids and need secure parking for a roofracked 4x4, apart from that flexible on most things.  It would be fab to be able to get to the Guggenheim in the morning, having said that I am sure no one else in my party will be interested except me, and price is the main concern which will probably put us out of town realistically.

Anyway it’s not a part of Spain I know at all, so would love to hear any recommendations from anyone with a bit more knowledge!

thanks so much in advance,

Maya

This place does not have secure parking as such but is out of the way so quite secure

When are you going back as I am on the P&O;ferry on the 30th June, and will be staying at the above place on night of 29th

Can’t think of anywher with parking - there are the usual expensive underground car parks with security; park near the manned office for extra safety.  Siete Calles and Plaza Nueva fantastic for tapas, some of the very best in Spain.  You must do the Guggenheim - even if your companions aren’t into art they’ll appreciate the amazing building.  There’s a good traditional art gallery too, I think it’s called Bellas Artes.  If you get a chance, try to see pelota; a unique Basque ball game.

Thanks so much for both replies!  That’s a really useful website John and a lot of the places look lovely - I think we are going to have to stay out of town, and put my Guggenheim plans on hold for another trip without kids, as the parking seems really problematic so best option out in the campo where you can park outside your window!  I am intrigued by all I’ve incidentally found out about Bilbao though so I’ll definitely be back there before too long.

John we are going to be on the ferry just before you on the 27th,  never done the trip before, but thought it would be better than the long drive with the children in tow - hopefully a big adventure?!
