Student Visa - Exit Questions

I’ve been staying in Santiago de Compostela for the last 10 months for a foreign exchange program, and I will be leaving for the United States on Tuesday with an overnight stay in Madrid, to finally land on US soil on Wednesday.

As I understand it, my Student Visa was valid for 3 months, at which point no one here seemed to know how to renew it, although it was seemingly possible via the Consulate website. I tried various resources to no avail and eventually resigned myself to have an expired visa.

I’m wondering what is the most likely sequence of events to happen when I try to leave from Santiago to Madrid. I know I have to pass by an visa-check for this flight. I’m assuming a period of questioning would happen, but what would follow? I assume that they would want me to be on a flight to the US as soon as possible, which would be the next day, but would they let me go assuming that I would be leaving the next day? Is there a fine to pay?

I’m going to carry all my other documents (proof of study, etc) that show I should have been able to renew my visa were the proper channel available, but I’m still worried.

Hey MAC 31,

I’m more-or-less new here, so I don’t know what you have typed in your previous posts. What is the U-Turn the Spanish Government is making policy wise?
