We have a 2 bedroomed cortijo for rent north of almunecar, (east of Nerja) just outside the village of Otivar.  We are planning on moving back to the UK for a minumum of 4 months from September 2009 and are looking for someone to rent our place for a nominal rent in exchange for looking after the place and two of our dogs!  The rental period can be longer if required.  We have no mainline electricity but generator and solar power.

Drop us a line if you want more info!

Hi Debbie

Basically we are going back to the UK from around the 6th of September until the middle of January and need someone to look after two of our dogs - we are taking the other 2 with us and also to look after the land, this just needs watering twice a week we have around 12,000 square meters which has avocado, mango, orange and loads more fruit trees which you’d be welcome to eat!!  Christmas time the satsumas and oranges are out!  We are about an hour and a quarter from both Granada and Malaga airports and about 15 minutes from the nearest town which is Almunecar.  We also have a cortijo seperate from the main house which, if you wanted to stay longer than the middle of January, we could move back into there.  It has a swimming pool which you would be welcome to use when we’re in the UK.  Our house currently (we have planning to extend) has two bedrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs, kitchen/dining room, living room and two bathrooms, again one upstairs and one down.  We have solar and wind power and a backup generator but no mainline power.  This is a little confusing at first, as not all appliances will run on the solar ie washing machine, toaster and other high wattage stuff, so the generator has to be put on for those items also if there’s no sun (which if you’ve lived here before you know isn’t usual!!) there’s no power!

If you’re still interested, either give me a ring on 0034 649034166 or send me another mail on this expat forum with your phone number and I’ll call you
