Hi. I have the unfortunate situation of living in Plymouth, england.

I have been wanting to move to Spain with my wife (who used to live in Fuengirloa, and also valencia, and for a time, in Gib), and we are going over again soon to take a further look around. Currently taking Spanish lesson, which are going surprisingly well.  I have a few questions so maybe one of you good people could point my in the right “direcci?n”.?!!!!!!!!

Vale. .........

1) Our car is on payments still and i havent finished paying for it and I dont want to use a chunk of our savings to pay the thing off. I dont want to take a RHD to spain, do you think any dealer in the UK would exchange it for a LHD drive car, on HP payments, and still let us move to spain with it, and after 6 months register it, itv it etc and still make the payments every month and they wouldnt mind? (Hope ive explained that well!)

2) Any ideas what the pound/euro thing will do? I work online and get paid in pounds so i dont need to get a job in spain to start with, but i would eventually like to set a business up there. (I sell painting services online). I wont post the link as forums usually think its an advert and remove the post!

3) Costa del sol vs Costa blanca. Discuss….......

Thanks in advance.

Guy

Hola Guy,

No idea on the car front sorry, but your Sterling and the diminishing amount of Euros it buys will probably go further on the Costa Blanca than Costa Del Sol - and it’s nicer anyway <yes, I am biassed!>

Am in the same boat financially, if you get any good steers on where the hell the rate is going do let me know.  I watch this link daily http://uk.reuters.com/business/currencies to decide when to transfer my salary across each month, but my best advice to you would be DON’T do it the day I decide to do it as the rate inevitably picks up a day or two later….

Good luck!

Maya

Hi Re the car, the best thing to do would be to sell it in the UK clear the debts and buy a spanish plated car when you arrive. You can only get HP in Spain if you have a proper work contract and have been employed for several months.
I have lived on the CDS for 24 years, depends what you are looking for most parts are very built up on the coast, probably a little more expensive than c blanca. I live near Marbella.

Hi,

I have lived here 9 years and I still can’t get a credit card let alone a car on HP!

I was self-emploed for 4 years, paying 250 euros a month social security and god knows what in tax, am a full resident and still no chance!

ps. I would recomend the Marbella area

Hi..

With The Car Situation “No” I have asked A garage here “Audi” and no they and other Garages do not take Cars that are on “HP” from other countries…

With the situation at the moment with “La Crisis” its a case of being lucky to see if the Car Garage “of your choice” will lend to you.. the Criteria is now quite tough…. 1) Contract of Employment 2) 6 months Payslips 3) DNI soo on…

If you pass you have hundreds of thousands of new cars to chose from :cheese:

As New cars are not selling at the moment…

Malaga.. Barcelona… Would Be My Choices to Live!

I am In Tarragona Which I like…

Regards

Anthony

You may want to base yourself depending on Internet capabilities.

Getting internet the moment you arrive can be a challenge.

If location for work isn`t important and you can live away from Expat`s, I`d avoid the costa`s completely.

Galicia is a wonderful place, as is the whole of the northern coast, if you want exceptional services such as TV, Internet and medical facilities check out the Basque country.

The Spanish news reported yesterday on the growing crisis within the health service following the death of the baby which was caused by a nurse injecting milk into the wrong tubes, the baby was premature and in an incubator. They reported that the health service provides 5 nurses per 1,000 patients in Spain, far higher than the rest of the EU.

So forget the myths that the Spanish health service is better than NHS, its based by Expats who cannot speak more than an hola.

Communications by the basque providers aren`t involving Telefonica, who are incompetent and lazy.

This is the best in Spain, by far.

As for the car, your probably better off offering the hp a settlement payment and selling the car privatly, don`t take to Spain, thats a huge mistake many miss in their planning.

A friend of mine took a Japanese 4x4 people carrier type thing, only too arrive and get pulled over twice, then told it cannot be registered it in Spain because of the import rules etc etc.

So they lost big time.

Not sure what the other stuff is about??????????

The huge mistake you could be makin in moving to either the Sol or Brava regions.😉

My advice is free, is should charge, but people couldn`t afford it, so I`m a generous kinda guy who helps people realise I`m right when its too late. 😊

You hadn`t written that in any of your posts here.

So you`ll be finding out in 6 weeks then.

Another one to my list.

Good Luck.
