Hello,

I’m a Bulgarian citizen and currently I live in UAE and have a residence visa…I’m coming to Spain to live and search for a job there.
I know that I need NIE and Certificate of residence for foreigners in regards to get any job in Spain. As a citizen of EU country I shouldn’t have a problem to obtain the above papers…
But my question is: Do I have to cancel first my UAE residence visa in order to obtain NIE and Certificate of residence in Spain? I wouldn’t cancel it if I don’t have to, in case in Spain doesn’t work within 6 months I can come back to UAE and use my current residence visa..In case all is fine and I find a job in Spain, the UAE residence visa will be canceled automatically if I don’t go back to UAE within 6 months..
Please, if there is somebody who has an information on it let me know, as I haven’t found an answer of my question so far..!

as an EU citizen all you have to do is bring your passport, get a place to live in and apply for the nie and certificate of registration. you can modify the regitration and you can cancel the registration when you want to leave the spain.

they will not ask you if you have other residence permits or visas granted by other countries.

This is not true…. You can never cancel a registration to an EU country… yes you can modify and yes you can say you are leaving… Never can be deleted or destroyed its always on the system as “Left Country” but never cancelled..

to see form ex 16 again, number 3 has 3 options:

1 certificado de registro de residente comunitario
2 MODIFICAR certificado de registro de residente comunitario
3 BAJA certificado de registro de residente comuniario

does canceling the registration necessarily mean erasing it?

It never gets erased….. Its always Active with the status as moved away or no longer needed an NIE number stays with that person for life… even when not used… (EU Purposes)

For instance when a citizen works for Security Clearance Jobs Like the ICC it always checks if you where you have had Residency in the EU or Non EU areas the option also covers did you inform the country that you have left? (In Some Cases having many residencys can stop you from being Security Cleared)

Residency is always active for a person…. As part of a silly EU Law (Which I do not have to hand) I find it for you tomorrow and PM you it… Its vast and long so be warned.

Thanks a lot for the information..There is a logic of what you have discussed and I will take it all in mind..!
But, it shouldn’t be a problem, as actually I don’t need a residence visa for Spain, as EU citizen, I guess..😊
So, whatever visa I have out of EU, it shouldn’t count..
