Please help.  My paternal grandfather was born in Spain but emigrated to Mexico many years ago.  I am Mexican-American, and I hear that it is possible to obtain Spanish/EU citizenship if one’s grandparent is/was Spanish.  My grandfather is deceased, but I do have relatives whom I need to see that still reside in Panes, Asturias which is where my grandfather was born.  I’d like to know
a)if Spanish citizenship is in fact possible under said circumstances;  b)if so, what sort of documentation is needed—I do have my dad’s Mexican birth certificate that lists my grandfather as being Spanish though I’m not sure this would suffice.  I’ve been to Spain before, but I only stayed for the 3 mos. (simply not enough time) as allowed by my visa.  Thank you for your help! 😊

Read this its pretty accurate.

http://www.spain-visas.com/Spanish-Citizenship-and-Spanish-Nationality-pag7.htm

Or consult the Spanish consulate in the US as each case can vary.

If your a Latin American citezen you only need to be a legal resident in Spain for 2 yrs before applying to become a Spanish National.

I’m not certain, however, it must have been prior to March 1935, around the time my dad was conceived.

lmnoriega,
in that case, only your dad can get the citizenship easily by applying for it at spanish consulate ,
when this is done you might be able to get a residence visa and immigrate to spain. and as a grandchild of spanish born spanish citizen, you only need to accumulate 1 year legal residence to apply for citizenship, you have to keep on renewing the residence permit until you get your spanish passport and dni.
