Hi All,

This is not a “Spain-related” question at all but I was hoping that someone would be able to help me out all the same…..

Me and my hubby-to-be are planning on going to New York for 1 week in December for our honeymoon.  I?ve been looking on the web for information about visas, etc and it seems that many countries are now exempt from having to apply for a visa, United Kingdom and Spain both included.  However, there are a lot of strict rules about passports in order to go without a visa.  I?ve been reading a lot about passports with chips, etc.  Mine doesn?t have a chip as it was issued in 2004, before the chip was invented!!  I believe that one of the rules is that passports issued before 2006 are valid to travel to the US without a chip.  Can anyone shed any light on this subject as the more I read, the more confused I get!!

Thanks!!

Your passport must be machine readable for entry to the US if you look on the bottom of the picture page if it has lots of “>” and information then it is machine readable. You still need to fill in the ESTA form as mentioned above and also the airline API information.

You do not need to fill in the flight details “AS PER INSTRUCTIONS”
Just fill out your personal details as per ESTA and Send..

You will told (Rapidly) if your successful or on hold “Pending Investigation”

API Flight details can be filled in but not necessary

Thanks guys!!  I know they?re very strict in the US so I was a bit scared about my passport not being valid, especially after reading so much about the necessity for a passport with a chip, which mine doesn?t have.  However, I believe that passports issued before October 2005 (mine was issued in 2004) are valid, as long as they are machine readable.  The requirement for a chip I think only applies to new passports issued after October 2006.  Anyone reading this who knows different, please correct me if I?m wrong!!!
