Hi,

I am a South African married to a UK citizen. I have been living in Spain since 2003 and would like to apply for Spanish nationality. I would like to know whether I have to wait till I have lived here for 10 years, or does my husband’s EU status make a difference? I have the Tarjeta de Residencia and all the necessary documents to reside in Spain. Different websites specify the required documents, but they seem to vary. One said I need my parents’ birth and marriage certificates in addition to my own. Also, is it possible to have documents apostilled at the South African Embassy in Madrid? It would be difficult to go all the way to South Africa solely for this purpose.

Is there anyone out there who can help me with information?

only people married to spanish citizens need to accumulate a year residence to start applying for citizenship.
south africans need to accumulate 10 years before they can start spanish citizenship application
