my OH is Gibraltarian, we are looking to buy a Spanish plated car, can he drive it without problems on a Gibraltar driving license?

I believe that you are OK to drive in Spain on a Gib driving licence.

While there are several special exceptions, as far as driving licences are concerned, Gibraltar is part of the EU and, therefore, the licence should be valid in any part of the EU (subject to the individual country’s own requirements on age, medicals etc). the fact the car has spanish plates should not matter.

Yes it seems that he is fine to drive a Spanish plated car, but I cannot drive a Gib car, so the new car will have to be Spanish!
