Hola!! So after years of imagining what it would be like to live in a warmer more laid back country we have finally decided that 2011 is the year that we are going to take the plunge and move to Spain. We have done quite a bit of research over the last few weeks and have decided that Altea, Alicante would be a good place to look for out long term rental!

Firstly, we’d like to say hi to everybody on the forum and we hope to get to know a lot of you very well over the coming months and years 😊

Secondly, i would like to hear any opinions on whether Altea is a good idea in their opinion as we haven’t actually visited the area yet and have chosen purely by researching on the internet. We are planning a visit in September to do more research but any info from you guys would be greatly appreciated before we set off!

Finally, i am actually an online sponsored professional poker player and it is of vital importance that we can get a very stable internet connection otherwise it interferes with my work greatly and could be a major sticking point when we finally make the move. Speed is not of great importance, but stability, i have heard several horror stories about Telefonica and storms keeping telephone lines down for weeks on end! Is this the case in the Altea area, if so, we may have to have a rethink! 😛

Many thanks, Martin, (and my lovely partner Anne), who im sure will be posting soon on here herself 😊

Hi and thankyou for your reply. So is ADSL the most reliable internet available in Spain? You mention ‘dogly’, i assume this is the same as a donlge in the UK? Speed is not really of concern to me, the most important aspect for me is reliability ie constant connection with no disconnections, what do you think would be the most suitable internet connection method for me, bearing this in mind?
